IBA - Institute of Business Administration hosted an engaging seminar on ‘Media and Democracy: An Essential Partnership!

Pakistan’s survival hinges on strong democracy, which in turn relies on free media and an independent judiciary. This was the key message from renowned journalist Hamid Mir during the seminar ‘Media and Democracy: An Essential Partnership’ at the CEJ-IBA, in collaboration with School of Economics and Social Sciences and Unlimited.

Hamid Mir, known for his fearless reporting from conflict zones like Afghanistan and Iraq, emphasized the critical role of a free press. Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director, IBA Karachi, stated, ‘Democracy requires a free and transparent media.’

Journalist Adil Jawad highlighted the impunity in journalist murders, while Lynne O’Donnell, one of the panellists, who spent many years as a foreign correspondent, discussed the overwhelming flood of information online and the shrinking space for quality journalism. With 20 years of experience, Amber Rahim Shamsi discussed the impact of and new technologies on journalism.
