At the recent Shahzada Dawood Learning Circles (SDLC) event, we were privileged to host Muhammad Amin, Secretary of Engro Holdings Limited and Engro Corporation Limited, who shared his reflections on the essence of character-driven leadership.

Reflecting on the session, he emphasized the importance of translating character into practical decision-making and highlighted the profound insights shared by Sufi Sahab, which linked character to deeper moral and Quranic values.

“It's heartening to see that KSBL is taking the lead," he noted. "I am really hopeful that through this institute we create a partnership where both academia and professionals from Engro work together to build leaders who make character-driven decisions.”

This week we began the very first cohort of the KSBL Leadership & Character Programme: four weeks of formation for our own faculty and staff, because it must be true of us before we ask it of our students.

A first cohort of 20 colleagues meets every Tuesday in plenary and every Saturday in tutorials of five, facilitated by our Rector, Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi.

Week 1, on 22 September, covered the question behind everything else: why does character matter more than ever?

The programme is adapted, with their generous permission, from the Oxford Leadership and Character Programme, offered at Jesus College, University of Oxford, and attended by the Rector, Dr Asghar Zaidi. Our warm thanks to the Oxford Character Project, whose decade of research and practice has given us its method, its evidence and its vocabulary.

At KSBL, that learning is shaped around our own values and the everyday realities of leadership.
Every colleague now works on three questions, and returns to them each week:
BE: Who do I need to be?
KNOW: What do I need to know?
DO: What do I need to do?

Our TTHIS values, Truthfulness, Trustworthiness, Humility, Integrity and Striving, are the foundation for this journey.
