ZABOR KA SAFAR: AN UNTOLD STORY — A PROPHETIC MISSION

“I will sing and make music with all my soul.” — Psalm 108:1

This is an untold story of a man entrusted with a prophetic mission: to revive worship and strengthen Christian witness through praising and proclaiming the Punjabi Psalms (Zabur).

From the soil of Pakistan to the growing Punjabi diaspora across the world, Rev. Dr. Eric Sarwar has carried a vision that the Punjabi Zabur is more than a treasured musical inheritance. It is Scripture to be sung, faith to be embodied, and a witness to be proclaimed from generation to generation.

His calling is rooted in a simple conviction: a people should not lose the sacred songs through which generations before them prayed, worshiped, lamented, hoped, and encountered God.

Through churches, classrooms, festivals, conferences, theological scholarship, and cross-cultural mission, this journey seeks to bring the Punjabi Psalms from historic manuscripts back into the voices of the people—from local congregations in Pakistan to Punjabi communities scattered among the nations.

The mission is not merely to preserve a century-old tradition. It is to revive a living song.

To sing the Zabur is to remember our spiritual heritage.
To teach the Zabur is to pass faith to the next generation.
To proclaim the Zabur is to bear biblical witness in the Punjabi world.
And to carry the Zabur across borders is to declare that the Psalms belong to the worshiping Church in every language, culture, and nation.

What does it mean to develop a theology of worship and music that is both biblically grounded and authentically Pakistani?

In this presentation, Rev. Dr. Eric Sarwar explores the Theology of Worship Music in the Pakistani Context, examining the relationship between Scripture, theology, culture, language, music, and Christian identity.

Drawing upon Pakistan’s rich musical and cultural heritage, this presentation reflects on the important role of Punjabi Zabur (Psalms), indigenous melodies, congregational singing, traditional instruments, and contextual worship in the life and mission of the Pakistani Church.

This conversation invites pastors, theologians, worship leaders, church musicians, seminarians, and Christian artists to consider an important question:

The Tehillim School of Church Music & Worship joyfully congratulates all **45 students from around the world who successfully completed our five-week online course:

“The Alphabetic Acrostics of Psalm 119: Musical, Poetical, & Linguistic Exploration.”

Over these five weeks, we journeyed through the extraordinary architecture of Psalm 119—22 Hebrew letters, 22 stanzas, 176 verses, and one magnificent celebration of God’s Word. Together, we explored the Psalm through its musical beauty, poetic structure, Hebrew language, theology, and spiritual formation.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Saleem Younus and Rev. Dr. Eric Sarwar for guiding this global learning community with scholarship, faith, and a passion for Scripture.

To every student: thank you for your dedication, curiosity, participation, and commitment to studying God’s Word. Completing the course is not simply an academic achievement—it is an invitation to continue reading, praying, meditating upon, and singing the Psalms.
