Mayor Karachi inaugurates plantation drive at KU

Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar met KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan at his office yesterday. Mayor Karachi said that City Government has launched the plantation drive, dire need is to promote plantation drive. He inaugurated plantation drive at Karachi University and added that environmental change is becoming a global issue day by day.

"Issue of garbage has become a serious issue, we need to plant more and more trees and play our part in greater cause. KMC faces same situation like KU where all the budget is consumed in paying salaries and pensions. KU faces serious issues including financial crisis, I will request Prime Minister to help Karachi University since he is focusing more on education", he added.

Mayor said that I will do every possible effort for KU development including renovation of Valika Ground.

KU VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan said that annually 1500 research papers are published of KU in international journals which may increase to 1.5 lacks if government provide adequate support and assistance. Prime Minister must focus on varsities since varsities play important role in development of nation. I appeal to Prime Minister to announce a bailout package to control its financial crisis.

He also informed Mayor Karachi on encroachments on KU land and asked for his assistance in this regard on which Mayor ensured to provide possible support by City Government in this regard.

Turkish delegation visit KU
Turkish delegation led by Vice Rector Selcuk University Prof. Dr. Huseyin Kara yesterday visited Karachi University and met the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan at his office. The delegation discussed the issues of mutual interest of both the universities including Faculty exchange program, split PhD program for KU PhD students, Mutual Utilization of the facilities of both the Universities. Dr. Ajmal Khan emphasized on to further strengthen the relationship between turkey and Pakistan through holding workshop and conferences mutually organized in both universities. A detailed MoU will be signed in October in this regard.
“This initiative will be a milestone in the relations of academia of both the countries, KU is a renowned institution of the world, through this MoU educational relations among both the countries will further strengthened. Workshop and conferences mutually organized in both universities will enhance the level of coordination among faculty and students. Turkey and Pakistan enjoy cordial relations and I hope that this relation of mutual confidence will continue”, Dr. Khan added.

Chinese professors meet KU Vice Chancellor
6 member delegation of China led by Dean of Tsinghua University, China Prof. Yan Xuetong met the Vice Chancellor of University of Karachi Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan at his office yesterday. The delegation deliberated on the purpose of this visit which was to take the opinion of intellectual community of the country on what measures should be taken to improve bilateral relations between Pak China relations and what psychological effects of CPEC will be there. There is a strong cultural linkage between Pakistani and Chinese nation which must be improved and such policies must be devised.
“CPEC is a historic and most important milestone in Pak China relations which will not only provide immense employment opportunities to Pakistani citizens but underdeveloped areas of the country will experience massive development. CPEC will play a vital role in eradication of poverty from the country and Pakistan will take technological help from China. CPEC is an important change maker with regards to political economy on the global front”, added VC Dr. Khan.
