TDC focuses on imparting the youth with skills that aid them in finding their voice, personal expression and a way to critically engage with the world at large. TDC uses debate as a tool to teach rhetoric, public speaking and critical thinking.

We’re bringing children an educational program to develop their self-confidence, critical thinking & science inquiry skills! Join Levelupp & Science Fuse for a 6-week adventure to perform LIVE science experiments while also nurturing your public-speaking skills.
Young scientists aged 8 - 12 years can join us to explore the science of DNA, electricity & instant ice cream through hands-on experiments.
This program consists of 6 modules. The 1st three modules will focus on enhancing students’ scientific literacy & teach them how to work as a scientist! New classes for public speaking and debating

This Ramzan help your child develop the self-confidence to express themselves in a safe, fun and activity filled environment. The Ramzan Debate Camp will consist of 4 classes, over a course of 2 weeks where your child will learn public speaking ettiquette, storytelling skills, thinking through different ideas and presenting them in a style modeled around their personality and personal expression.

Class days April 21st, 23rd | May 5th, 7th

Timings: 5-8 Year Olds: 4-5 PM, 9-13 Year Olds: 5-6 PM.

About the instructor: Hassaan has taught debating to young kids as a DebateMate mentor in the UK, at Kensington Primary High and Vicarage Primary High. He has also taught debating at different schools and universities in Karachi, and has most recently worked with Nixor O levels.

Teach your child the skills to be a smooth communicator while confidently expressing ideas about the world. This class equips kids to see the world through an expansive lens while fostering critical thinking, empathy and persuasion. Students will learn how to debate different sides of a topic, tell stories which engage audiences and develop self-confidence, all while having a ton of fun.

About the instructor:
Hassaan Bin Shaheen is a writer, lawyer, performer and trainer. Hassaan has trained as a corporate lawyer in the UK and has a postgraduate diploma in corporate law, along with having trained as a comedy writer and performer at iO Chicago, The Nursery Theatre, London and Hoopla Improv, London. His background in law and comedy has allowed him to develop a deep understanding of the interplay between creative and critical thinking. An avid debater, Hassaan was also one of the co-founders of The Debating Circuit, a Karachi based debate advocacy organisation. Hassaan has taught parliamentary debating and critical thinking at Cedar College and Beaconhouse PECHS along with specialised public speaking courses at the IBA Summer School. 7 of his students have been shortlisted for the Pakistan National Debate Camp between 2016 and 2018, and one of them represented the Pakistan National Debate Team in 2018 the World’s School’s Debating Championship. Hassaan won the Public Speaking Championship in 2015 at the World’s Universities Debating Championship, apart from winning the best speaker at various national debating championships.

This Saturday we will have the trailblazing Ameera Natasha Moore as our guest. Ameera is among the OG group of Malaysian debaters who changed the activity forever. Her achievement as a debater paved the way for the global south to be recognised as a debating powerhouse, breaking down barriers in representation, excellence, and recognition. We are excited to have her and talk to her about her journey, decolonizing debating, her training philosophy and how the Malaysian circuit became the breeding ground for debating brilliance.

Having debated her whole varsity years, Ameera has a myriad of titles to her name. Debate-wise she is a 2x United Asians Debate Champion, an Asian BP Champion, a 2x Cambridge IV Champion (Open and ESL), and was part of the first-ever Asian team to have won Australs in the Open Category. Her experiences at WUDC includes topping the ESL tab and being a 2x Open Octofinalist. As a judge, the list is no shorter. She has served on the adjudication core of numerous tournaments including Asians BP, Cambridge IV, Australs, Australs Womens' and Malaysia Nationals. When she’s not on the Adjcore, her judging abilities stands out nonetheless, as she has been a finals judge at Asia BP, Australs, WSDC, and twice at EUDC. As a trainer, she had the honour of being part of the coaching squad when WSDC team Malaysia broke first at the recent championship in Croatia.

Super excited to have Brian Wong joining us this Saturday. This week we ask them about their philosophy of debating, their ideas on coaching and how their role in taking team China to victory at the World's School Debating Championship in 2018. Apart from that, expect a quick chat on what does it mean to live a good life, and why we must seek virtue in the face of an indifferent universe.

Brian is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of Oxford Political Review, a publication that aspires to bridge the theory and practice gap. As a weekly columnist for the Hong Kong Economic Journal, they also write regularly for international publications such as TIME, Aeon, Times Higher Education, the Diplomat, Fortune, the SCMP, Myanmar Times, and the Asia Times, having also published in philosophy journals such as the Journal of Practical Ethics and the APA Blog.

Brian is a Year 2 MPhil candidate in Political Theory and Rhodes Scholar-Elect from Hong Kong. They are the first ever Hong Kong-born Chinese to have advanced to the open semifinals of the World Universities Debating Championships (top 8 out of 360 teams, in 2020). They advanced to the elimination rounds of over 50 tournaments as a speaker, including the British and Chinese national debating championships.

They have twice adjudicated the Grand Finals of the World Universities Debating Championships, thrice adjudicated the Grand Finals of the Australasian Universities Championships, and twice adjudicated the Grand Finals of the European Universities Debating Championships. They are also the current Debating Coach of Eton College and was part of the team that coached Team China into winning the 2018 World Schools Debating Championships.

About the session: The training workshop is an hour long introduction to critical thinking. The participants will be introduced to tools and methods by which they can learn to identify patterns and behaviors that influence their day to day decision making, while learning how to create new habits, avoid thinking pitfalls and learn methods by which they can expand their consciousness and train their brains to think deeply about issues. The session will also be a quick dive into the limitations of the human mind, and in the light of that understand how to reduce cognitive errors.

As a lawyer and consultant, Hassaan did his postgraduate diploma in the UK and trained as a solicitor at the University of Law, Bloomsbury in corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions. Hassaan has done projects with Standard Chartered Pakistan, The Hashoo Group, developing communication strategies for a major political party, and trainings at the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company and Thardeep Microfinance. Hassaan has worked with Liaquat Merchant Associates as a corporate lawyer where he specialized in banking law and corporate strategies. He has also assisted the Director Legal FIA in prosecuting cyber-harassment, financial fraud and white-collar crimes.

Currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Cambridge, Sharmila is a three times Asian Debating Champion, Co-Chief adjudicator of WUDC Berlin, Coach of Phillipines National Debate Team 2012, Palestine World Schools Debate Team in 2015, Lecturer University of Vermont Lawrence Debate Union in school year 2014-2015. Sharmila's training laurels only match her achievements as a speaker.

Hailing from the Phillipines Sharmila has been a shining light for teams and countries whenever they have needed her. An active proponent of equality, she has pushed to make debating more accessible and has written comprehensively on debating.

Apart from Debating her list of awards and achievements include: Cambridge Gates Scholarship, Leadership in Communities Award, Australian Leadership Award Scholarship.

We will be joining her this Saturday at 8 PM, and unpacking how to get good at debating, the future of the activity and how to make it accessible across class and gender lines.

Very excited to announce that, our next conversation will be another Cambridge debater, a European Champion, 2016 World's Best Debater and finalist, and one firebrand of a public speaker Michael DG.

Michael within a span of a year rose to the top of public speaking excellence, his inimitable wit, his relentless work-ethic and his ability to evoke a lot of buried feelings in their audience has been a secret to his success and coming Saturday the 9th of May, Hassaan will try to find out more about his process and hopefully unravel his not so secret secrets.
