✨ Fraction Circles – Understanding Fractions Made Visual and Fun!
Children explore how one whole can be divided into equal parts. Halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, and more.
They see that:
Two halves make one whole
Three thirds make one whole
Four fourths make one whole
By comparing pieces, they notice relationships like:
One half equals two fourths equals three sixths and so on.
½ = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8 = 5/10 = 6/12
Two 1/6 pieces make 1/3
Through this hands-on work, children gain the vocabulary of fraction families (halves, thirds, quarters, etc.) and build a deep, visual understanding of equivalence.
Fraction circles turn abstract ideas into concrete learning — helping children solve fraction problems with confidence, not anxiety. 🌈

Ten frames are used in mathematics education to help students develop number sense, understanding of place value, and basic arithmetic skills. They consist of a rectangular frame divided into ten boxes, typically arranged in two rows of five. Students use counters, such as chips or small cubes, to represent numbers within the frame. For example, to represent the number 7, a student would place seven counters in the frame, with three in the top row and four in the bottom row. Ten frames are especially helpful for visualizing numbers within the context of ten, which is a foundational concept in early mathematics learning.

Starting with tangible or concrete representations in early childhood lays the foundation for children to gradually progress from understanding concepts to solving abstract problems in their notebooks. Following this step-by-step approach is crucial, as skipping it may result in noticeable learning gaps in later grades. It's a teaching method that transitions from the concrete to the abstract in the realm of mathematics education.
