project is visualized as a technology cooperative - linking resources and expertise in different areas into a cooperative set that could function as a technology awareness, skill-building, mentorship and enterpreneurship platform at the individual or institutional level. DARE covers the following broadly defined technology disciplines. More areas are being added as our resource base grows into the

The Lyceum FABLAB and DARE jointly hosted a DRAG RACE CHALLENGE event on February 9, 2019. Students were tasked to design and build small Radio-Controlled (RC) powered Drag racers to the following specifications:
A) Design and Construct a modular chassis frame.
B) Design and Construct a front rocker assembly.
C) Assemble and install a radio-controlled power module consisting of a frame, Motor + propeller, electronic speed controller, radio receiver, and battery.
D) Draw, assemble, and test the design for minimal rolling friction, low-drag aerodynamics, and structural rigidity to be able to withstand an impact against a foam barrier after a 45 feet high speed run.
Students had to use the experience gained from their mechanical and electronics workshops, along with an understanding of physics and aerodynamics, to build the fastest car they could design using the materials provided.
20 teams competed on race day on dual tracks of 45 feet length – racing at extreme speeds - and there was plenty of crash-and-bang action on
show !!
The general consensus among the audience and the participants was that such events should happen more often.
This has given us the motivation to define, plan, and organize more STEM challenges and activities.
Stay tuned!
