*IPS-JSMU Conducts Successful Workshop on In Silico Molecular Docking in Drug Discovery*
The Department of Pharmacognosy, Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) successfully organized an insightful and hands-on workshop titled “In Silico Molecular Docking in Drug Discovery: A Unified Approach Across Pharmaceutical Sciences.” The workshop was conducted under the visionary leadership of Professor Dr. Huma Ali, Principal, IPS-JSMU, with the dedicated supervision and coordination of Dr. Shahlla Imam, Head of Department of Pharmacognosy.
The session brought together PharmD students, MPhil and PhD scholars, researchers, and faculty members to explore the growing role of computational tools in modern drug discovery and pharmaceutical research. Participants received practical exposure to molecular docking techniques, virtual screening approaches, and the utilization of important scientific resources and software, including Discovery Studio, OpenBabel, MGL Tools, PubChem, Protein Data Bank (PDB), and SwissDock.
The workshop featured an engaging and informative presentation by Dr. Sara Naqvi, Assistant Professor, Iqra University, Karachi, a distinguished pharmacognosist and researcher with extensive experience in teaching and research. Through her expert guidance, participants gained valuable insights into the application of molecular docking for identifying potential drug candidates and understanding drug-target interactions.
The event was supported by the dedicated faculty members of the Department of Pharmacognosy, including Dr. Sumaira Ishaq, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Kaneez Fatima, Lecturer, whose efforts contributed significantly to the successful planning and ex*****on of the workshop.
At the conclusion of the session, Professor Dr. Huma Ali (Principal, IPS-JSMU), along with Dr. Humaira Siddiqui (Vice Principal, IPS-JSMU), highly appreciated the speaker for sharing her expertise and commended the organizing team for arranging a productive academic activity. Certificates were distributed among the participants, organizing committee members, and student volunteers in recognition of their active involvement and commitment.
Special appreciation was extended to the student volunteers Ms. Tooba, Mr. Khanzada Areeb, and Ms. Mahnoor Hamid for their tireless dedication, enthusiasm, and outstanding support throughout the event. Their hard work played a vital role in ensuring the smooth management and success of the workshop.
The Department of Pharmacognosy remains committed to providing students and researchers with opportunities to engage in emerging scientific technologies and strengthen their research capabilities, contributing to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences and innovative drug discovery.
