PSC meets to review progress of SBEP
November 21, 2023, Karachi:
The 31st meeting of the Program Steering Committee (PSC) of the Sindh Basic Education Program convened at PMIU yesterday (21.11.2023) meticulously reviewed progress and strategized the way forward. Dr. Shereen Mustafa, Secretary, School Education and Literacy Department, chaired the meeting, joined by various program stakeholders including P&DD, Finance Department, RSU, USAID, Halcrow, and the PPP Node.
Secretary, Dr. Mustafa commended the SBEP team for their dedication, successfully completing 102 out of 106 schools. The PPP Node also outlined the plan to transfer completed school buildings to the accomplished Education Management organization.
SBEP, with its goal to enhance access and the quality of education for Sindh's children, has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of 102 school buildings and the operation of 81 schools across 11 districts. This stands as a true testament to the success of the Sindh Basic Education Program in achieving its set objectives.
Since the initiation of the program, starting with the first completed building in Khairpur, SBEP has delivered quality education to thousands of children in remote areas of Sindh. Notably, a substantial number of girls have been included in the educational outreach, contributing to their participation in economic development.
The SBEP team, beyond completing all 106 schools, is dedicated to providing necessary facilities including Solarization, IT equipment, and vigilance devices for the better management of these schools.

USAID under SBEP Celebrates the Inauguration of 100th School in Jacobabad
Jacobabad, Oct 10, 2023 - Today, a historic moment unfolded as the children of Jacobabad witnessed the inauguration of the 100th school, through the collaborative efforts of the USAID & Sindh Government under the Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP). This momentous occasion was graced by the presence of Dr. Shereen Mustafa Secretary School Education & Literacy Department and Mr. Donald Blome, US Ambassador to Pakistan.
Dr. Sheeren Mustafa, Additional Chief Secretary, School Education & Literacy Department, conveyed her thoughts on this achievement, stating, "Education is the cornerstone of progress and empowerment. With the inauguration of the 100th school, we're taking a significant step towards a brighter future for Jacobabad's children. Let's continue to invest in their dreams and potential."
Mr. Donald Blome, U.S Ambassador to Pakistan, emphasized the significance of international collaboration, remarking, "Education knows no boundaries. I'm honored to witness this remarkable achievement and the strong partnership between the U.S. and Pakistan in fostering education. These schools are a testament to our shared commitment to a better tomorrow."
Mr. Zain ul Abideen Ansari, Program Director Sindh Basic Education Program, expressed his gratitude, saying, "This milestone belongs to every member of the SBEP family, the teachers, the parents, and, most importantly, the students. Let's continue to nurture their curiosity and ambition. He thanked the people of US for their generous support."
This inauguration represents a symbol of hope and opportunity for Jacobabad's youth. The 100 schools under SBEP in 10 districts not only provide access to quality education but also pave the way for a brighter, more prosperous future.
The event saw a strong turnout of supporters, partners, and the resilient community of Jacobabad, all of whom have played a pivotal role in making this event more cheerful and exciting.

Under the USAID-funded Sindh Basic Education Program, GHS Adam Khan Panhwar, which was severely affected by the devastating floods in 2010, has been reconstructed with a state-of-the-art, brand-new building in District Jacobabad. The SBEP team has done an exceptional job over the years, transforming this school into a futuristic facility. The school will soon be open for academic activities, marking a significant milestone in the SBEP's objective to modernize education in Sindh.

USAID funded school opens door for children in Kashmore.
On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the newly built Government of Sindh School Government High School Diljan Khan Malik, Taluka Tangwani, District Kashmore was handed over to the Education Management Organization (EMO) referred to as MDZED (SZABIST) under the auspices of the USAID-supported Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP) of the School Education & Literacy Department. Deputy Commissioner Kashmore-Kandhkot Mr. Manwar Ali Mithiani presided over the handing over and opening ceremony. Mr. Ghulam Rabbani Malik, the District Education Officer, and other District Education Officials attended the event. The school building was officially opened by Deputy Commissioner Kashmore-Kandhkot. At the occasion, Tariq Masood, Senior Manager of the Sindh Basic Education Program, said that the American people through USAID are helping the Sindh Government to re-construct 106 government schools in 10 districts of Sindh as part of the Sindh Basic Program. The children in rural parts of underserved and flood 2010 affected districts of Sindh, including five towns of Karachi, will receive a high-quality education in modern school facilities that SBEP is constructing. He claimed that more than 80 thousand children will receive education in the 88 schools that have already been constructed under SBEP. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Munawar Ali Mithiani emphasized the value of education and said that because a modern school has been established in the village of Diljan Malik, he does not see any reason for parents to deny their kids the opportunity to receive an education. We are pleased to see the establishment of such a beautiful school with USAID's assistance. We are appreciative of USAID for making efforts to advance education in Sindh province. Following the event, the school constructed by the SBEP, SE&LD was handed over to EMO, MDZED (SZABIST). Members of School Management Committee (SMC), community members, parents, teachers, students, and civil society members were also present in the event.
