The Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP) is looking for an 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗛𝗣 to join its Research and Archiving team in 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶.

This role involves documenting oral histories through interviews, transcription, and fieldwork, while supporting the research, digitisation, and archiving of historical materials. The candidate must have exemplary communication and interpersonal skills in both English and Urdu, and will help catalogue interviews and photographs, manage archival metadata, contribute to the digital archive, and work closely with project partners to preserve diverse historical narratives.

Education: Bachelor's in History, Journalism, Anthropology, Sociology, Communication, Public Policy, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience: Minimum 1 year preferred (fresh graduates are also encouraged to apply)

Since its inception, The Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP) has engaged with the youth of Pakistan in various multifaceted educational outreach programmes. As part of its mission, CAP has collaborated with educational institutions and different organisations through workshops, training sessions, and internship programmes, to share its archival practices and research methodology.

From conducting a workshop with Baithak - Challenging Taboos, hosting students from Beaconhouse National University, BNU at National History Museum, Lahore, to engaging with the URA summer interns at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, CAP continues to share its archival practices with the next generation while also building an understanding of preservation in guiding our collective memory.

As 2026 continues, The Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP) reflects on a quarter marked by significant milestones in preserving and sharing Pakistan's history. From breaking ground on the Karachi Museum of History to inaugurating 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘣𝘢𝘢𝘯, a new multimedia exhibition, this issue highlights new spaces dedicated to memory, learning, and public engagement.

Alongside these milestones, we celebrate the opening of 𝘏𝘶𝘴𝘯-𝘦-𝘏𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘳 at the National History Museum, Lahore, ongoing archival and digitisation efforts, and CAP's participation in Getty’s international expert convening. Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to making history accessible, contextual, and participatory.

From 6–8 May 2026, The Citizens Archive of Pakistan's (CAP) former Head of Operations & Development, Khadija Tahir, represented the organisation at 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘀, an international expert convening hosted by the Getty Conservation Institute at the Getty Center, Los Angeles.

Presenting CAP's digital preservation journey since 2007, Khadija shared the organisation's work preserving Pakistan's history through oral histories, archival collections, and collaborative digitisation initiatives, while reflecting on the opportunities and challenges of advancing digital preservation in under-resourced and multilingual contexts.

A key takeaway from the three-day convening was the shared recognition among participants that there is no single model for digital preservation, and that practitioners working in under-resourced, multilingual, and post-colonial contexts are central to shaping the field's future, not peripheral to it.

It is a testament to the power of history, memory, and identity. This video offers a glimpse into the research, curation, and creative vision that brought these stories to life as an interactive experience for current and future generations.

𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙗𝙖𝙖𝙣 is a permanent multimedia exhibition that preserves and presents the story of Narowal, its people, the Partition of 1947 and the birth of Pakistan through archival material and oral history interviews. Officially inaugurated on 7 June 2026 by Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Government of Pakistan, the exhibition is housed in the auditorium of Narowal Public School in Narowal.

Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Government of Pakistan, inaugurated 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙗𝙖𝙖𝙣 on 7 June, 2026, and shared his reflections on what the exhibition means for the younger generation. He commended the CAP team for the creativity and dedication with which they brought Pakistan's history to life.
The exhibition is more than a display of the past, Prof. Ahsan adds. It is an investment in national identity, one that gives young Pakistanis the confidence to take pride in their heritage and the motivation to build on it.

Shaheen Jaffrani, Senior Project Manager Creative and Exhibitions at The Citizens Archive of Pakistan, shares the creative and curatorial journey behind 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙗𝙖𝙖𝙣. The exhibition is built on the powerful idea that the younger generation should know this land is theirs and feel the responsibility to protect it. The Creative Team channelled months of work into an immersive journey that spans five galleries.
