If you're retaking PTE for an Australian visa, this could change how you prep.

- Since August 2025, Australia's Department of Home Affairs no longer uses one flat score across all four skills — each skill now has its own minimum
- Writing and Speaking thresholds increased noticeably for Proficient and Superior English — a strong Reading score can no longer cover for a weaker Speaking or Writing score
- If you tested before August 2025, your result is still assessed under the old rules — but any retake now falls under the new component-based system
- A good "overall" score isn't enough anymore — you need to check you're meeting the minimum in every individual skill
