Firefighting Training for the Department of Environmental Science
The firefighting training program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, setting a solemn and respectful tone for the session.
Mr. Khalid Hassan officially opened the program with a formal introduction, followed by welcoming remarks for the guest speaker and trainer, Mr. Hasan Khuld.
The session began with an interactive segment that engaged the participants, creating an energetic and participatory atmosphere. Practical demonstrations and hands-on activities were conducted outside on the SMI University grounds, allowing participants to gain firsthand experience in firefighting techniques and emergency response measures.
This training session was specifically organized for the Department of Environmental Science and took place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 within the university premises.
The training was highly valuable for students, faculty, and staff, as it complemented the health and safety courses offered by the department. Participants had the opportunity to develop critical emergency response skills, which are essential for both academic and real-world applications.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Hina Shehnaz, Incharge Chairperson of the Department of Environmental Science, who expressed gratitude to the trainers, organizers, and attendees for their active participation and support.

Sindh Madressatul Islam University, in collaboration with the Regional English Language Office hosted an insightful session led by Dr. Patricia Pashby, English Language Specialist, on "Use of Artificial Intelligence in Language Instruction: Determining a Healthy Balance" at the Senate Hall of SMIU. The session was attended by 15 faculty members and 35 students from the Master’s and BS programs of departments of English; and Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences at SMIU.
The engaging session focused on how AI tools can revolutionize language teaching, fostering student engagement and improved learning outcomes, while maintaining a thoughtful balance between technology and pedagogy.
We are inspired by the enthusiasm of our participants as they engage with this innovative approach to education!

Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) hosted grand celebrations to honor the legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in connection with his birth anniversary during the 2-Day “SMIU Students Gala-2024”, on Tuesday. A cake cutting ceremony was held at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium, which was performed by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai along with Deans Dr. Zahid Ali Channar, Dr. Aftab Ahmed Shaikh and Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Advisor to the Vice Chancellor Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, Director Students Affairs Mr. Muhammad Naeem Ahmed and chairpersons and heads of different academic and administrative sections.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said that our young generation must learn from life, struggle and achievements of founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He said that besides whole Nation particularly the students, faculty and staff members of Sindh Madressatul Islam University feel an honour that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had great association with his Alma-Mater - Sindh Madressatul Islam. “One can see that how much Sindh Madressatul Islam was important to the Father of the Nation -Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah that he had bequeathed one third of his residual property to Sindh Madressatul Islam. That is why, we must be more responsible towards our nation and the country,” Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said.
The Vice Chancellor stressed upon the students of SMIU that they must follow the vison and ideology of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, and that was to work for prosperous and developed Pakistan.
A declamation competition was also held on the vision and values of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, which brought together talented orators, including Sara Syed from the Department of Software Engineering, Samad Chandio from the Department of Information Technology, and M. Sufyan from the Department of Computer Science, who delivered thought-provoking speeches highlighting the Quaid's vision and values.
The national songs competition was a highlight of the event, where students from various departments performed soulful renditions of patriotic songs. Their passionate performances captured the essence of love for the nation, evoking a strong sense of pride and unity among the audience. Each performance was met with thunderous applause, reflecting the audience's enthusiasm and appreciation for the performers' dedication.
These celebrations served as a vibrant reminder of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision for a united and progressive Pakistan, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and audience alike.
On the second and last day of the SMIU Students Gala-2024, the students’ societies of SMIU including Art Society, Music Society, Community Service Society, Literary Society and Art Society organised different sessions such as Monologue: Hazards of drug use, Talk: Navigating the Challenges of Social Media in the Digital Age, Dastangoi and Mazahiya Musharia and Open Mic and Beat & Buzz Musical concert. Huge participation of students made the event successful.
The SMIU Students Gala concluded on the note that “Together We Can Shine.”

The 2-Day “SMIU Students’ Gala-2024” titled “Together We Shine” kicked off at Sindh Madressatul Islam University from Monday. Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai inaugurated it by cutting a ribbon. Thereafter, he visited stalls set up by students depicting beautiful culture of Pakistan’s six parts as Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir. Also he went to the stalls of different products and food that were exhibiting different entrepreneurship ideas.
This mega event was like a festival at the university, which was organised by Directorate of Students’ Affairs and Counselling (DSA) with the support of students’ societies. The Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai appreciated Director of Directorate of Students’ Affairs and Counselling Mr. Muhammad Naeem Ahmed, his team, deans, MTC and other sections of the university for organising and extending support to this most meaningful mega event.

SMI University Achieves Remarkable Position in UI GreenMetric 2024 Ranking
Sindh Madressatul Islam University has secured an impressive ranking of 4th in the provincial public sector universities of Sindh in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings-2024. While in the country it is ranked 43rd and on the world ranking of 863 universities/institutes SMIU is placed on 480th in the Asian countries.
SMIU achieved the said success under the guidance of the university's esteemed Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, whose leadership has been instrumental in steering the institution towards this global recognition. The ranking process was meticulously supervised by Prof. Dr. Aslam Uqaili, former Vice Chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, who ensured that all data was thoroughly reviewed before submission.
A dedicated team of professionals of SMIU including Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Khuhro, Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and Dr. Saima Baig, Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), played a key role in collecting necessary data for the ranking. Dr. Hina Shanaz, Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences at SMIU also provided her expertise, ensuring the seamless collection and validation of the required information.
This achievement highlights SMI University's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward becoming a leader in green practices and research within the region and globally.

The 14th meeting of the Academic Council of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) was held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the Senate Hall of SMIU, which was chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai. The academic council approved Graduate/Post Graduate Study Policy-2023 and Research Ethics Policy and Guidelines-2024. In the meeting the minutes of previous 12th and 13th meetings of the Academic Council and different boards and committees were approved. Also commencing new academic programs and subjects, availability of resources, guidelines of HEC and academic performance of the university was discussed in detail and taken decisions.

Turkish Delegation holds meeting with Vice Chancellor of SMIU
Prof Dr. Halil Toker, Director of Yunus Emre Institute Turkish Cultural Center, Islamabad and Elam Ali Teepu, Turkish Lecture at Karachi University held a meeting with Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) at his office on Monday, December 9, 2024 and decided to establish the Turkish Cultural Centre at SMIU with the support of Turkish government aimed at promoting language, culture, literature and research of both the countries Pakistan and Turkiye.
It was also decided that Turkish language will be taught to the students of SMIU. Initially 30 students will be enrolled for Turkish language, later on number of students will be increased.
Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said Pakistan and Turkiye have close relations being the brotherly Muslim countries, therefore these practical steps will bring the people of both countries closer.
“Sindh Madressatul Islam University has more than 140 years old relations with Turkiye because the founder of SMI Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi had served as a Consul General of Turkiye in Karachi during the period of Ottoman Empire,” Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai said and added that SMIU is planning to establish Rumi Chair at the university.
Prof. Dr. Halil Toker said the Turkish government through its Embassy in Pakistan is going to organise international conferences on Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi in Islamabad and Turkiye respectively. He further said the biography of Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi written by distinguished writer of Sindh Mirza Qaleech Baig will be translated into Turkish language.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai nominated Dr. Subhash Babu, Chairperson of the Department of Social and Development Studies of SMIU as a focal person for coordination during all above mentioned developments. The Vice Chancellor SMIU and the Turkish delegation exchanged the souvenirs.
Deans of SMIU Dr. Zahid Ali Channar and Dr. Jamshed Adil Halepoto, Chairperson of the Department of Social and Development Studies Dr. Subhash and Anwar Ali were also present in the meeting.
Later on, the Turkish delegation visited Jinnah Museum and other departments of SMIU.
