Nestled in the heart of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, St Lawrence's Convent Girls' School stands as a beacon of excellence in girls' education.
Guided by our motto: "Ad Caritatem Per Veritatem," we provide a nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence, moral values, and compassion, preparing our students to lead meaningful lives rooted in truth and charity. Founded in 1936 by the visionary Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), this private Catholic institution has blossomed under the nurturing care of the Archdi
ocese of Karachi. From its humble beginnings with just 115 students, guided by the dedicated Mother Mary Britwald, St Lawrence's Convent has grown exponentially. Located at the historic intersection of Britto and D'Souza roads in what was once Cincinnatus Town, now Garden East, the school has evolved from a simple structure into a thriving educational haven. Through the trials of nationalization in 1972 and the subsequent denationalization in 1990, St Lawrence's Convent has unwaveringly upheld its commitment to academic excellence. By 2011, the school was nurturing the minds of approximately 1,100 girls, and today, it proudly celebrates a legacy of over 130,000 alumni by 2024. The school's rich history was celebrated with grandeur in 2011 during its platinum jubilee, marked by a Mass at St Lawrence's Church attended by Archbishop Evarist Pinto and other esteemed dignitaries. This event highlighted the enduring legacy and spirit of the institution. Under the inspiring leadership of Christine Martins, an alumna and the youngest-ever principal, the school reached new heights from 2006 to 2018. Her tenure was marked by transformative improvements in administration, innovative teacher training programs, a dynamic curriculum, and a vibrant array of extracurricular activities. Christine's passion and dedication infused new life into the school, ensuring that it remained at the forefront of educational excellence. Following Christine Martins, the current principal, Sister Catherine Gill from the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), has continued to build on this legacy. Appointed in 2019, Sister Catherine Gill has brought a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the institution. With a background in education and administration, she has introduced cutting-edge teaching methodologies and technology integration into the classrooms, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the demands of the 21st century. Sister Catherine Gill's achievements are numerous and impactful. Under her leadership, the school has seen a significant increase in student enrollment and academic performance. She has spearheaded initiatives to enhance STEM education, providing students with opportunities to engage in hands-on learning experiences and participate in national and international science competitions. Additionally, Sister Catherine has focused on expanding the school's extracurricular programs, encouraging students to explore their talents in arts, sports, and community service. One of her notable accomplishments is the establishment of a comprehensive support system for students' mental and emotional well-being. Recognizing the importance of holistic education, Sister Catherine has implemented counseling services, workshops on stress management, and programs to promote a positive school environment. Her dedication to creating a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere has been instrumental in fostering a sense of belonging among students and staff alike. St Lawrence's Convent boasts an illustrious list of alumnae who have made significant impacts in their respective fields. Notable among them are acclaimed author and designer Shaila Abdullah, former Minister for Education Professor Anita Ghulam Ali, renowned epidemiologist Rennie M. D'Souza, and the beloved former principal Mrs. Christine Martins (2006-2018). These remarkable women, among countless others, exemplify the school's enduring influence and its commitment to shaping future leaders. Today, St Lawrence's Convent Girls' School continues to thrive under the visionary leadership of Sister Catherine Gill, upholding its tradition of academic excellence, moral values, and community service. With a steadfast commitment to empowering young girls and fostering a love for learning, the school remains a shining example of educational excellence in Karachi and beyond.
