On 22 November 2023, NPM hosted the session, "Mission 4.0" to guide first-year medical students on how to approach their annual exams.

Participants were delighted to learn the best study strategies for managing time, and utilising resources like books, slides and Anki when preparing for theory exams. They also found the Viva simulation to help clarify what to expect on Viva days and learned how to calculate their GPA.

In the end, an enlightening session, "Keeping Yourself Alive", was given by Dr Hashir Ali Awan on how to maintain perspective and balance through the demanding years in medical school.

We wish the first year's best of luck for their annual exams!

On 28 October 2023, the Near-Peer Mentorship Programme was pleased to host the session, "There is Always a Way!", which aimed at providing practical strategies for medical students to preserve their mental health. It composed of 2 segments, "Coping Mechanisms" in which Dr. Ayesha discussed some ways medical students can deal with anxiety, depression and other mental health disorders, and "Help is Near!" in which we discussed common scenarios which were asked by the participants and our psychiatrists gave their advice on them. Our speakers were glad to share resources regarding self-help and anxiety and gave some key takeaways to tackle key dilemmas that most medical students face.

Meet our esteemed speakers for the session: "There is always a Way!"

Dr Anum Haider is a Dow Medical College graduate. She is FCPS in Psychiatry and fellow of MHPE program.
She is working as an Assistant professor in the department of Psychiatry at Dow Medical College & Dr Ruth K.M.Pfau Civil hospital Karachi.
She has more than 11 year of clinical experience in the field of Psychiatry and a rich experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. She is the author of the book, Clinical Psychiatry-Fast & Easy by Paramount publication. She has published multiple papers in reputed national journals. She has special interest in Psychosocial interventions and actively applies it in regular practice along with pharmacotherapy.

Dr. Aysha Ahmad is a graduate of Dow Medical College and currently a 3rd Year postgraduate trainee in Psychiatry. She has experience in assessment and management of various mental health conditions and has been an instructor to both interns and 4th year MBBS students during their rotation in psychiatry. During both undergraduate and postgraduate training she has always had an interest in scientific writing and plans to pursue subspecialty training in psychodynamic psychiatry after her core training.

Dr. Sarush Siddiqui, a graduate of Dow Medical College, currently works as an emergency medicine physician. With a strong passion for improving healthcare, Dr. Sarush actively engages in volunteer and research work. Aspiring to become an anesthesiologist, he is dedicated to advancing his medical career and making a significant impact in the field. His extensive involvement in various organizations, such as being the Founder and Secretary of Hamara Mustaqbil and the Founder and Executive at SoMR, showcases his commitment to healthcare excellence. Dr. Hassaan Tohid MBBS, SUDCC, CCATP, CSOTP, NLP PRACTITIONER (Assoc)ย  is a 4 times TEDx Speaker, Entrepreneur, Neuroscientist, Board Certified Addiction Counselor, Certified Life Coach, Certified NLP Practitioner(Assoc.) and a Published author. He has been featured on FOX, NBC, & CBS News.

As an entrepreneur, he is the founder of the California Institute of Behavioral Neurosciences and Psychology. His training includes Public Speaking, Research Writing and Research Data Analysis, Business training and coaching, life coaching, and Sales.

As an academic, he is a Neuroscientist and delivered a TED talk on his specialty Mirror Neurons at TEDx UCDavissf.
