The COVID-19 epidemic is the first and most important health problem. Many countries (rightly) have decided to close schools, colleges, and universities. This problem underscores the fact that the policymakers are facing a dilemma between closing schools (reducing communication and keeping lives alive) and keeping them open (allowing workers to work and maintain the economy). Temporary severe disruption is felt in many families around the world: homeschooling is not only the most alarming factor in parental productivity but also in children's well-being and learning. Teaching goes online, on an untested and unprecedented scale. Student testing also goes online, with many trials and errors and uncertainty for everyone. Many tests have just been suspended. Importantly, this disruption will not only be a temporary problem, but it can also have long-term consequences for the parties involved and may increase inequality.
