Lime water testing to detect CO2 (Carbon di oxide)
Limewater is the common name for a dilute aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide. Calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2, is sparsely soluble at room temperature in water (1.5 g/L at 25 °C[1]). "Pure" (i.e. less than or fully saturated) It is basic in nature with a pH of 12.4. and can be used to detect carbon-di-oxide presence level in a room.
•INDUSTRY:
Waste gases from industries containing sulphur dioxide can be cleaned by bubbling through limewater, a process called sulfation, in which the toxic sulphur dioxide is trapped as a precipitate:
Ca(OH)2(aq) + SO2(g) → CaSO3(s) + H2O(l)
•WATER TREATMENT:
Limewater is used in a process known as lime softening to reduce water hardness. It is also used as a neutralizing agent in municipal waste water treatment.

We, as Young Climate Activists of Beaconhouse Clifton Campus have taken charge of our own future and vowed to work together to bring our planet out of ‘Climate crisis’. Through research and in-depth inquiry we investigated that forests are major contributors to the Earth's ability to maintain its climate, by the global impact of their photosynthesis. They are a natural defense against climate change, removing the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide and generating oxygen. This assists in purifying the atmosphere and controlling rising temperatures. Whereas, Deforestation negates these benefits. Keeping that in mind and to kick-start our movement we visited “Urban Forest” located in our city Karachi and contributed to plantation there. We had a thorough discussion with their experts on how to maintain a green environment in our respective vicinities. We were also guided about the treated water used to nurture these forests. Continuing our advocacy movement we are looking forward to be ambassadors of many more actions like this.
