Habib University hosted a historic event at Stanford University, featuring insightful moderation by academic leaders Sarah Stein Greenberg, Executive Director of the d.school, and Dr. Alexander Key, Associate Professor of Comparative Literature, both esteemed members of Habib University's Board of Governors. The occasion celebrated two distinguished legacies, honoring the remarkable contributions of the Dhanani and Jeewanjee families. These families exemplify the rich tradition of US philanthropy, showcasing how supporting higher education can be a transformative force for global change.

While numerous parallels exist between Stanford University and Habib University, the most profound is the commitment to making education accessible to all, regardless of social class. Habib University draws continuous inspiration from the culture of US philanthropy, where community support fosters imagination, innovation, and robust relationships.

The event brought together attendees from various U.S. cities and participants on Stanford's picturesque campus, reinforcing Pakistan's positive narrative. It provided a platform for insightful discussions on challenges in Pakistan's higher education, the marginalization of students along class lines, and deeper issues.

At Habib University's sixth Postcolonial Higher Education Conference, the Committee Chair, Dr. Nauman Naqvi, honored the late anthropological thinker, Prof. Saba Mahmood, on the fifth anniversary of her passing. Prof. Mahmood, a distinguished anthropologist from UC Berkeley, left a lasting legacy as an ethnographer of Islam, known for her incisive skepticism that challenged conventional liberal assumptions. Her influential model of critical scholarship and pedagogy remains an enduring source of inspiration for academics worldwide. Before her passing, she eagerly expressed plans to return to Pakistan for her next project, similar to her impactful work in Egypt, where she explored the intricacies of political secularism.

Dr. Saba Mahmood was not only an academic colleague but also a treasured friend of Habib University. She played a significant role in promoting the institution's intellectual growth and commitment to its noble mission of shaping reparative futures. Her instrumental role in initiating the Annual Mahomedali Habib Lecture at UC Berkeley, an international platform for intellectual discourse on Pakistan, stands as a testament to her enduring influence. The Habib Community remains deeply inspired and grateful for Dr. Saba Mahmood's guidance, and her lasting legacy continues to shape the university's dedicated pursuit of intellectual excellence, advocating for a future characterized by healing and progress.
