12th May 2026:
"Architecture Begins with an Idea"
A jury was conducted for the students of 1st Year, 2nd Semester on the assignment titled “Architecture Begins with an Idea.” Through this assignment, students were encouraged to explore how a feeling or concept can be transformed into a spatial experience and eventually expressed through form.
The exercise focused on translating emotions into space while examining spatial qualities such as Open vs Closed, Light vs Dark, and Free vs Restricted. The objective of the assignment was to develop intellectual and conceptual thinking by understanding how abstract ideas can be interpreted into spatial experiences, emphasizing the human connection with space.
The submission requirements included a Concept Title, Written Explanation, Individual Sketches representing the Idea Development Process, and the Final Conceptual Sketch, allowing students to visually and conceptually communicate the evolution of their ideas from thought to form.
This assignment proved to be highly insightful for the students, as it introduced them to the significance of conceptual thinking in architecture at an early stage of their academic journey. The exercise was connected to a series of class discussions, presentations, case study videos conducted prior to the assignment. Students were thoroughly introduced to important architectural terminologies and concepts such as morphology, concept story, concept development, mood boards, abstract and non-abstract ideas, and various other architectural vocabularies to help them better understand the process of deriving design through concepts.
Students from 4th Year (Batch 2022) and 5th Year (Batch 2021) also visited the jury and reviewed the work of the 1st Year students. Their encouragement and positive feedback greatly motivated the juniors and created a healthy academic interaction among the batches. The jury was concluded by the conclusion remarks by the juror and the subject teacher.
I sincerely thank the juror, Mr. Imran Khan (Principal Architect – Axono Architects), along with the DAP faculty members, especially Madam tamkeena aftab, Sir Junaid Khanzada, Miss Ar. Asma Qayoom, and Dr-Sufi Ruhal Pervez for giving their valuable time and support.
