Success Story:
Shehreen Ibrahim – BS English Spring 2021 Batch
Shehreen Ibrahim completed her BS English from the Department of English, SMIU, in 2025. During her four years at the university, she grew as a passionate learner, researcher, and creative thinker. Her academic journey reflected a deep curiosity about language and society — she presented her work at several research conferences and poster competitions, with her research topics often exploring linguistic taboos in culture. For her final-year thesis, she chose to study autism and the challenges faced by teachers, combining her interest in language, cognition, and inclusive education.
In 2022, Shehreen translated and directed Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot for Students Week, an experience that not only deepened her love for literature but also highlighted her ability to lead and inspire her peers. Alongside academics, she remained actively involved in campus life, volunteering in social events and serving as the female treasurer of the Debating Society, where she promoted open discussion and student collaboration.
Her professional journey began with an internship at Oxford University Press Pakistan in the Department of Publishing, which introduced her to the world of educational publishing. This experience paved the way for new opportunities, including a freelance project with Paramount Books and collaboration with Charter for Compassion Pakistan on the Adolescent and Adult Learning and Training Program (AALTP), where she contributed to curriculum design. She later worked as a Master Trainer with Malala Fund and Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aghai, supporting initiatives that promoted girls’ education in rural Sindh.
Today, Shehreen is working as a Content Developer at the Family Educational Services Foundation (FESF), where she designs curriculum and learning resources for deaf and mute students. The content she has developed is now being used across all Deaf Reach campuses throughout Pakistan. With a growing passion for psycholinguistics and language disorders, Shehreen continues to explore how language connects to thought and learning, striving to make education more inclusive, accessible, and meaningful for every learner.
