The School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (AHSS) is one of the two schools at Habib University. In addition to its multidisciplinary degree programs, AHSS also contains the following three academic centers which serve as platforms for research, practice and critical reflection - Center for Media and Design (CMD), Interdisciplinary Development Research and Action Center (IDRAC) and the Arzu Center for Regional Languages and Humanities.

On Thursday, the 4th of March, students of Habib University were graced by the presence of renowned Urdu poet Kishwar Naheed in a session titled "Poetry In a Time of Pandemic: A Conversation with Kishwar Naheed".

The talk featured some recent literary work by the poet focusing on the current pandemic. Her poetry was centered around the problems faced by women in a male-dominated Pakistani society and how the COVID-19 pandemic has been a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Kishwar Naheed's popular works include Lab-e-Goya, Benaam Musafat, Nazmen, Galian, Dhoop, and Darvaze.

Feminist Historical Research in the context of Partition

This talk, organized primarily for Social Development and Policy students enrolled in the Qualitative Research Methods course, was centered around the speaker's research using feminist narratives to understand the Partition.

About the speaker: Pippa Virdee currently teaches Modern South Asian History, with an interest in British colonial history, the history of Punjab, the South Asian diaspora in Britain, and women's history in modern Pakistan. Her books include, 'From the Ashes of 1947: Reimaging Punjab' (CUP, 2018), co-edited 'Refugees and the End of Empire' (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) and 'Coming to Coventry: Stories from the South Asian Pioneers' (Herbert, 2006). She is currently working on 'A Very Short Introduction to Pakistan' (OUP, forthcoming)

A group of Habib University's Communication and Design students organized an art exhibition at the PinkyGul this Friday and Saturday, titled 'Andekhey' [The Unseen]. Curated by President Arts and Culture Club Marium Asif, the organizers for this event also included Manahil Siddiqui, Zaina Noman, and Ariba Rafi.

The theme of this exhibition was the COVID-19 pandemic, with photographers, digital artists, and musicians coming together to share how they experienced life under the ensuing lockdown through their art. The venue, PinkyGul, is a women-centric community space which aims to promote and support young women artists.
