Israel has hundreds of nukes, won’t sign the NPT, and faces no sanctions. Iran follows the rules, signs the NPT, allows inspections — and gets bombed. Welcome to the hypocrisy of the 'rules-based' international order.

"Khamenei warns US against attacks, Israel claims 40 sites hit"

Supreme Leader Khamenei says Iran won’t accept “imposed war”, “peace”, and warns any US strikes on its territory will have “serious irreparable consequences”.
Israel says it has struck 40 sites in Iran today, including centrifuge production and weapons facilities, while Iran launched a swarm of drones at Israel.
US President Donald Trump has demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender”, saying, “We now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran.”
The death toll from Israel’s attacks on Iran has risen to more than 240, including 70 women and children. More than 24 people have been killed in Iranian attacks on Israel.
In Gaza, Israeli forces have killed at least 89 Palestinians, including 70 people seeking food aid in the city of Khan Younis.

Iran “will stand firm against an imposed war, just as it will stand firm against an imposed peace,” the county’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a televised message reported by Tasnim news agency.

“This nation will not surrender to anyone in the face of imposition.”

The Iranian leader also pointed out to statements made by US President Donald Trump, saying that those who know Iran and its history “know that Iranians do not answer well to the language of threat”.

“And the Americans should know that any US military intervention will undoubtedly be accompanied by irreparable consequences.”

Iran’s government facing ‘existential moment’

While most in the US government agree on the need to end Iran’s nuclear programme, there is ongoing debate about whether to pursue “regime change”, says Marco Vicenzino, a global strategy adviser and geopolitical risk specialist.

He told Al Jazeera that the mounting pressure on Iran’s leaders has brought the country to its “weakest point” in four decades, describing this as an “existential moment for the regime”.

The defiant comments by Ayatollah Khamenei amount to rhetorical “posturing” to save face, Vicenzino added. “The rhetoric coming out of the regime is mainly motivated by survival.”

But Vicenzino warned that if the US chooses to pursue the government’s ouster while trying to dismantle its nuclear capabilities, Iran could resort to “desperate measures” that spread chaos across the region.

“If Iran is pushed into a corner… will it collapse or will it take desperate measures?” asked Vicenzino, noting it could try to shut off the Strait of Hormuz or bomb oil facilities throughout the Gulf. “These are all open questions.”

Owners of over three million old private and commercial vehicles will have to spend thousands of rupees to obtain new registration number plates printed with the Ajrak design for their four-wheelers within a short span of around three months as the Sindh government has made the replacement of the registration number plates mandatory, it emerged on Wednesday.

The Sindh excise and taxation secretary, through a public notice, has notified all owners of vehicles — both private and commercial — that the old number plates had been discontinued and they were required to be replaced with new retro-reflective number plates by April 3, 2025.

However, the decision to give such a short deadline — less than 100 days (excluding weekly holidays) — raised many eyebrows as the excise and taxation department lacked the manpower to deal with over 28,000 owners/vehicles on a daily basis and to issue them their new number plates to complete the task, ie to replace number plates of over three million vehicles, till April 3.

Here's everything you need to know about it.
