The Department of Biotechnology, University of Karachi, is proud to have successfully organized a comprehensive hands-on workshop titled "Applications of Real-Time PCR" on August 16th, 2025.
Participants received practical training in nucleic acid extraction, step-by-step Real-Time PCR workflow, and software-based result interpretation. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with U.M. Enterprises and facilitated by distinguished professionals and experts in the field.
This initiative reflects the departmentโs ongoing commitment to promoting experiential learning and advancing biotechnology education.

The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), University of Karachi proudly extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. Dr. Raheela Rehmat Zohra, Chairperson of Biotechnology Department, University of Karachi (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Rashida Rehmat Zohra, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Jinnah University for women (Co-PI) for their exceptional work in Local isolation and production of Xanthan from newly isolated Xanthomonas spp.
Under the SRSP Project 2020โ2021, the team successfully developed an efficient, cost-effective biotechnological process utilizing indigenous microbial resources. This initiative not only strengthened local scientific capacity but also contributed to sustainable industrial development by reducing reliance on imported strains. Their efforts align with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Decent Work and Economic Growth, showcasing the potential of localized research to drive impactful change.
We applaud Dr. Raheela Rehmat Zohra and Dr. Rashida Rehmat Zohra for their dedication, leadership, and impactful contribution toward developing new doors to the economic and industrial development of Pakistan.

ORIC Extends Its Heartfelt Congratulations on a Landmark Achievement in Inclusive Education
The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), University of Karachi proudly extends its warmest ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ก๐ง๐๐ณ ๐๐ก๐ฆ๐๐, Assistant Professor, Biotechnology, University of Karachi (Principal Investigator) and ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐๐ ๐๐๐ก๐ฆ๐๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ก๐ซ๐, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Jinnah University for women (Co-PI) for their exceptional work in food safety and preservation developing edible Biofilms.
Under the SRSP Project 2020โ2021, the team successfully developed Edible Biofilms for Citrus fruits by indigenously produced Chitosan. Their efforts are a benchmark in sustaining the goals for Biodegradability and Biocompatibility for the food safety measures.
Their project not only offers Citrus fruit preservation and safety methods but also can majorly contribute to the increase in exports of Citrus Fruits in Pakistan.
This milestone achievement is not just a research outcome but a practical application to counter the food quality and safety issues.
We applaud Dr. Mehnaz Ahmed and Dr. Rashida Rehmat for their dedication, leadership, and impactful contribution toward developing edible Biofilms may lead to the successful contribution in exports of Pakistan.
