7 Most Common Myths About CSS Exams

Myth #1: Doctors CHAA Jatay hain!

There is a very common belief about Doctors in Pakistan that they have very strong memorization skills, usually labeled as “Ratta”. And this skill set is essential to pass the Civil Service exams. Therefore, the Doctors are the best fit for participating and acing this particular exam! Let’s bust this myth!

If it was actually so easy for the doctors to pass this exam then wouldn’t it be that all top positions be secured by the doctors? However, this is not the case. Even a simple B.A graduate can top these exams! Whatever you are going to do, do like it’s never done before. Unless it’s procrastinating. Whatever you want to do, do it! Excel in it! Pakistan needs many good CSS officers, you can be the one too irrespective of your educational background.

Myth #2: You can ace CSS only if you are academically extraordinary

It is generally assumed that to be successful at CSS, a candidate must have a prior marvelous academic record. But, this is just as true as a unicorn is. Actually, every candidate starts over when he/she enters the world of CSS. Everyone is similar. The only difference lies in the seriousness, dedication and intelligent studying of the successful candidate. So, whoever begins preparing for CSS, they should forget their past achievements and focus entirely on their preparation strategy for CSS to succeed.

Myth #3: You need to be an English Maestro

The point is, everything can be learned. English isn’t that big of monster that you can’t defeat. It’s just a language. A language that is so commonly used that we have it as our official language. Besides, if you can’t speak it as fluently as Donald Trump does, it doesn’t matter! His own wife can’t do that! So you can become the first lady without total command over this language. Not bad huh? Just do whatever English is in the course, and learn as much as you can. It’s not our mother tongue so it’s completely understandable if you can’t speak in it like Winston Churchill used to. Besides, practice makes everything perfect. So don’t beat yourself up over this. English is very easy to learn and you don’t need to be a maestro in it to ace CSS.

Myth #4: “You must win every battle to win the war!”

Translation: you must top every subject to ace the test.
So you don’t need to do that. If it happens, well and good. Even more than well and good, it will be bloody fantastic. But if it doesn’t happen, it’s okay and completely natural. Everybody has some weaknesses, as long as you compensate for them with your strong points, you’re good. Ask the experts and your seniors. You CAN top the exam even if you don’t top EVERY subject. It’s completely human to ‘win some and lose some’ as long as your wins overshadow your losses.

Myth #5: “You’ve only got one chance, you’re either in or out!”
Well, that’s a myth too. That only happened to Miandad. He couldn’t miss the ball bowled to him. He had to hit it for a six and God bless the guy, for he actually hit it out of the park! The point is, it’s okay to fail. If you don’t get a high score in the first attempt, doesn’t matter as long as you succeed in the second attempt. Or the third one. However, if your performance in 1st attempt went bad, it should not affect your performance in the next one. If anything, it will help you since you’ll have more experience the next time. So keep going, fellas! Don’t listen to baseless myths designed to make you fail!

Myth #6: “It’s not possible to Pass CSS Exams in the first attempt!”

Listen to me people. The goal is to succeed. That’s it. If you can do it in your first attempt, DO IT! If you can do it in your second or third attempt, DO IT! Just give your best every time until the time you succeed. I know people who have cleared the exam and got allocated in their first attempt and also those who managed to do that in successive attempts.

Myth #7: “CSS is a test of only your knowledge.”

Unlike most exams, CSS papers are not about how much stuff a candidate has memorized. It’s a combination of your confidence, the way you attempt the paper, your writing style and so many other things that only a good teacher can tell you. Paper presentation matters a lot here. You can’t expect to go all the way to the top just by memorizing your subjects. The way you present them matters equally, if not more
