پروفیسر فیاض الدین — پاکستان کے نامور نظریاتی طبیعیات دان

پروفیسر فیاض الدین 10 نومبر 1930 کو لدھیانہ، برطانوی ہندوستان میں پیدا ہوئے۔ آپ ایک ممتاز پاکستانی نظریاتی طبیعیات دان اور قومی مرکز برائے طبیعیات میں ایمیریٹس پروفیسر کے طور پر خدمات انجام دیتے رہے۔ آپ کا شمار ان سائنسدانوں میں ہوتا ہے جنہوں نے نظریاتی اور ریاضیاتی طبیعیات کے میدان میں نمایاں کردار ادا کیا۔ آپ نے خاص طور پر کوانٹم میکینکس، ذرّاتی طبیعیات اور میزون طبیعیات میں تحقیق کی اور اپنے جڑواں بھائی ریاض الدین کے ساتھ مل کر متعدد اہم سائنسی مقالے شائع کیے۔

تعلیم کے میدان میں، فیاض الدین نے ابتدائی تعلیم کے بعد پنجاب یونیورسٹی سے ریاضی میں بی اے آنرز اور بعد ازاں 1953 میں ریاضیاتی طبیعیات میں ایم ایس سی مکمل کی۔ اس دوران انہیں عظیم سائنسدان عبدالسلام کی سرپرستی حاصل رہی۔ بعد ازاں انہوں نے ایم فل اور پھر برطانیہ کے امپیریل کالج لندن سے 1962 میں نظریاتی ذرّاتی طبیعیات میں پی ایچ ڈی حاصل کی۔ ان کی تحقیق کا موضوع K میزون کی فوٹو پروڈکشن پر مبنی تھا۔

تعلیمی اور پیشہ ورانہ زندگی میں انہوں نے پاکستان اٹامک انرجی کمیشن میں خدمات انجام دیں، جہاں انہوں نے کائناتی شعاعوں اور میزونز پر تحقیق کی۔ بعد ازاں وہ امریکہ کے یونیورسٹی آف شکاگو کے اینریکو فرمی انسٹیٹیوٹ میں پوسٹ ڈاکٹریٹ تحقیق سے وابستہ رہے۔ پاکستان واپسی پر انہوں نے قائداعظم یونیورسٹی میں شعبہ طبیعیات کو بین الاقوامی سطح پر متعارف کروانے میں اہم کردار ادا کیا۔

فیاض الدین نے عالمی اداروں جیسے سرن میں بھی بطور وزٹنگ سائنسدان خدمات سرانجام دیں۔ انہوں نے سعودی عرب کی مختلف جامعات میں تدریسی خدمات انجام دیں اور 2005 کے بعد دوبارہ پاکستان آکر علمی و تحقیقی سرگرمیوں میں مصروف رہے۔ 2007 میں وہ قومی مرکز برائے طبیعیات سے بطور سینئر سائنسدان منسلک ہوئے۔

ان کی سائنسی خدمات کے اعتراف میں حکومت پاکستان نے انہیں 2000 میں ہلالِ امتیاز سے نوازا۔ اس کے علاوہ انہیں خوازمی انٹرنیشنل ایوارڈ، پاکستان اکیڈمی آف سائنسز کا گولڈ میڈل اور ہائر ایجوکیشن کمیشن کا ڈسٹنگوشڈ پروفیسر ایوارڈ بھی ملا۔ وہ متعدد بین الاقوامی سائنسی اداروں کے رکن بھی رہے، جن میں امریکن فزیکل سوسائٹی اور تھرڈ ورلڈ اکیڈمی آف سائنسز شامل ہیں۔

تحقیقی کام کے ساتھ ساتھ انہوں نے اہم کتب بھی تحریر کیں، جن میں “Quantum Mechanics” اور “A Modern Introduction to Particle Physics” خاص طور پر قابل ذکر ہیں۔ ان کی تحقیق گیج تھیوریز، چائرل سمٹری، ہیوی کوارک اسپن سمٹری اور ذرّاتی تعاملات کی فینومینولوجی جیسے پیچیدہ موضوعات پر محیط ہے۔

پروفیسر فیاض الدین کی زندگی پاکستان میں سائنسی تحقیق کے فروغ اور عالمی سطح پر ملک کا نام روشن کرنے کی ایک شاندار مثال ہے۔ انہوں نے نہ صرف خود تحقیق کی بلکہ نئی نسل کے سائنسدانوں کی تربیت میں بھی اہم کردار ادا کیا، جس کے اثرات آج بھی محسوس کیے جا رہے ہیں۔

Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is now accepting applications for the Perimeter Scholars International Start (PSI Start) program.

The program invites students to join Perimeter Institute's world-leading research community for a 2-week summer school in theoretical physics from June 15-26, 2026. In addition, some of these students will also come to Perimeter to participate in groundbreaking research through a paid internship program. All students will learn cutting-edge topics in modern theoretical physics and collaboration skills while immersed in the multi-disciplinary environment of the world's largest independent theoretical physics research center.

PhD opportunities in physics at University of Nebraska-Lincoln

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UNL has world-class research programs in condensed matter and materials physics, atomic, molecular, optical, and plasma physics, and high-energy physics – all in both experiment and theory. In the last five years, 50 students have successfully earned PhD degrees.

All graduate students in our department are supported by full teaching or research assistantships, which include a full tuition waiver and a stipend starting at $2322 per month. Newly admitted students are also considered for merit-based fellowships varying from $2000 to $8000 per year over 2-3 years. The admission requirements and answers to some frequently asked questions can be found on our website. GRE scores are not required, and the TOEFL score may be waived if English was the official language of instruction for the applicant's college degree. The application fee is $50.
