In addition to radio-delivered instruction, the program enriches the learning environment by engaging resources already available (including, for example, teachers, local cultural artifacts such as rhymes/songs, games and the environment, instructional materials in the classroom such as books and blackboard, the expertise of local community members, and locally available materials (such as bottle tops and sticks) to create a blend of good teaching and learning practices. Today, we celebrate the joy, imagination, and limitless potential of every child.

But more importantly, we celebrate their right to learn, to dream, to be safe, and to be heard

At POWER99, we believe that every child deserves a future filled with opportunity — whether in a classroom, through creative expression, or by simply having a voice in their community. Let’s work together to build a world where learning is accessible, cultures are celebrated, and young minds can flourish without fear or barriers.

Shocking HundrED Survey Finds UNESCO Education Aid Might Decrease by 25% in 2 Years, Cutting Education Access for 18% of Kids
A new HundrED survey of 189 education innovators across 100+ countries reveals a global funding crisis. UNESCO warns education aid could fall 25% in just two years, which may leave 18% more children without school access. The impact is already visible: 28% of innovators run on budgets under $2M, and 40% are in lower-middle-income countries. Many small organisations (130 surveyed) rely heavily on aid, yet when USAID suddenly withdrew support in early 2025, dozens faced program cuts, staff layoffs, and even asset sales. Educators fear shrinking donor pools, short-term funding, and governments unable to help, forcing them to survive through collaboration, volunteers, and low-cost local solutions.

Access to Education as a Lifeline During Crisis – POWER99’s Commitment

Islamabad: Access to education is not just a basic right — in times of crisis, it becomes a lifeline. POWER99, a pioneer in interactive radio education in Pakistan, is once again stepping up to ensure that children affected by the recent floods do not lose their right to learn.

Pakistan is facing the compounding effects of climate change, with devastating floods repeatedly displacing families, destroying schools, and isolating communities. These disasters threaten to deepen educational inequalities and risk leaving thousands of children out of school.

Through its award- winning Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) programs POWER99 continues to deliver education where it is needed most. Broadclass – Listen to Learn, one of its most successful initiatives, provides literacy, numeracy, and life skills lessons to children in remote and disaster-affected areas. By turning radio into classrooms, POWER99 transforms homes, shelters, and community spaces into safe learning environments, keeping education uninterrupted even during emergencies.

POWER99’s work goes beyond basic education. Its programs such as Awaz-e-Dosti and the Farewell Land podcast series focus on migration, displacement, and refugee issues. These platforms give a voice to displaced communities, highlight their struggles, and share their resilience with a wider audience. In flood-hit regions, these broadcasts have become critical for sharing life-saving information, psychosocial support messages, and educational content that helps children and families navigate uncertainty.

Recognizing the importance of local capacity building, POWER99 also runs trainings, mentoring, and internship programs for teachers, youth leaders, and citizen journalists. These initiatives build skills in conflict-sensitive reporting, inclusive education, and crisis communication, ensuring that responses are locally driven and culturally sensitive.

“When Radio Speaks, Classrooms Listen” – Stories from Broadclass Listen to Learn

Launch of series of teacher stories from the Broadclass – Listen to Learn program

Starting this week, we’re proud to bring you real stories from the voices that matter most — our teachers.

What happens when a radio becomes more than a device — when it becomes a teacher, a guide, a spark for imagination?

In thousands of classrooms across Pakistan, Broadclass – Listen to Learn is doing just that.

These are reflections from the ground: how radio-based interactive learning has empowered educators, engaged students, and opened the doors of quality education where it was once out of reach.
