Global Navigation Satellite Systems - IST - NCGSA

Prof. Dr. Najam Abbas Naqvi presented Pakistan’s GNSS and Space Weather initiatives during the ISWI (International Space Weather Initiative) Steering Committee Meeting, held online from Vienna.

The International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI) is a UN-led program under the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, building on the legacy of IHY 2007. ISWI advances global space weather science through instrument deployment, data analysis, modeling, education, training, and public outreach, with a strong emphasis on international cooperation and capacity building.

The presentation highlighted Pakistan’s progress in GNSS capacity development, including the specialized MS GNSS program at the Institute of Space Technology (IST) and the GNSS Research Lab-NCGSA Lab under the National Center of GIS & Space Applications (NCGSA). It also showcased international collaboration with Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Italy, through the IST GNSS Observatory contributing data for global space weather research.

The engagement reflects Pakistan’s growing role in regional and global space weather research and education. We are Grateful to the ISWI community and especially to Pakistan National Coordinator Dr. Nadia Imtiaz , for providing a platform that connects local efforts with global impact.
