☄️ Scientists may have found a hidden rule in cosmic rays after more than a century.

Cosmic rays are high-energy particles that race through space, mostly as protons, but also as heavier nuclei like helium, carbon, oxygen, and iron.

Using nine years of data from the DAMPE space telescope, researchers measured how these particles behave at extremely high energies.

They found that different cosmic-ray nuclei all show a similar drop-off pattern at about the same magnetic rigidity — a measure of how strongly magnetic fields can bend their paths.

That matters because it suggests cosmic rays may be shaped more by electric charge than by particle mass.

The result does not reveal exactly where cosmic rays come from. But it gives scientists a sharper rule for understanding how these powerful particles are accelerated and travel through the galaxy.
