Are you considering applying for scholarships or research positions in the US, UK or EU in the next 2 years? If yes, then you need to start laying the groundwork now. The first question you need to ask is where do I start? The application process can be overwhelming, requiring effort on multiple fronts, causing most aspirants to not even initiate the application process. This is why it's generally a good idea to start early (2 years for undergraduate students and about 1 year for graduate students). Scholarships and funding are really competitive and are based on grants won by Professors/academics at Universities after stiff competition.
Consequently, academics are very selective about the candidates they hire for these positions. But what kind of traits do Professors look for when hiring graduate researchers or Post-Docs? Is it just CGPA? Well, not quite. While GPA is an important factor, it's not the only factor; in fact, what most people look for are "Well-rounded" individuals who are reliable and trustworthy. This session aims to provide students with some guidelines on how to become well-rounded applicants and thus increase their chances of securing research positions or scholarships abroad. I will share some tips based on my diverse research experience of working at universities in the US, UK, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. Pakistani students have tremendous potential but, at times, miss out on opportunities due to a lack of awareness or planning. The objective of this session will be to alleviate some of these problems and enable our students to unleash their true potential.
