As we all know that, the pandemic (COVID-19) has completely changed this world. There has been a 180 degree shift in the way people think, the way things are done, the way people approach their lives as well as the way businesses are conducted.

Life in 2022 and after is going to be completely different than what it is today and what it was back in 2020. The business paradigm in this new world is going to evolve up side down. This new world is looking for a shift to remote operations and processes. We are entering the digital era way before everyone had anticipated, all thanks to COVID-19.

What it means for job sector is that companies will be shifting to work from home (be it full time or part time) model to cut down on operational expenses. Companies will be looking for more enthusiastic people with creative thinking abilities and problem-solving skills. Freelancers are going to be the kings of the modern digital era.

We have to have digital skills now more than ever and if we do not work towards building digital skills then we going to regret for decades to come. So it's high time to raise our own standards by learning new skills (not just technical also some transferable skills as well) and be relevant in this new fast evolving world.

Warning - Long Post but a must read!!!!

Over the last few weeks, I noticed that our youth are confused - I would rather say been made confused - in understanding about what actually is freelancing and what is VA "Virtual Assistant".

Whenever you mention to them freelancing the only thing they can think of is website development, SEO and graphic designing. You mention them VA and the only thing comes to their mind is Amazon. I've been trying to understand why is that and the bottom line I got to is that trainers telling them this all crap and the youth following the trainers blindly without doing their own research.

So I decided to add my 2 cents on the top hoping maybe I can put a few on the right track.

So basically what is freelancing?
"Freelancing is when a person is self-employed and not necessarily committed to a particular employer long-term. Freelance workers are sometimes represented by a company or a temporary agency that resells freelance labor to clients; others work independently or use professional associations or websites to get work."

What is VA - The Virtual Assistant?
"A virtual assistant is an independent contractor who provides administrative services to clients while operating outside of the client's office. A virtual assistant typically operates from a home office but can access the necessary planning documents, such as shared calendars, remotely."

Makes some sense now? It was easy, No? I copy and pasted these from wikioedia. Let me explain in further easy words.

Freelancing is when we are self employed but work on projects for others, some times remotely and some times in contractor's office for short term. You are not employed by them, rather you are hired by them.

Virtual Assistant is also more or less same but works only remotely and manages the assigned tasks remotely.

I hope now we understand that freelancing doesn't only mean web development, SEO and graphic designing and VA doesn't only mean Amazon work. Both these only mean that you work for yourself and provide your services regarding any skill set you got.
