In early March 2026, when the world watched the news with mounting anxiety, Dr. Amir Navid, a surgeon from Tehran, stayed behind in his city hospital while many doctors left for safer regions. The war between the United States and Iran had erupted after massive strikes shook Iran’s major cities, including air raids and missile exchanges that displaced thousands and disrupted life across the nation.

Dr. Navid was only 38, with a calm voice and determined eyes that betrayed his long nights of study and service. When the first wave of casualties came to the hospital — men and women injured by aerial bombardment and panic-inflicted injuries — he knew that his profession was more than a job; it was his calling.

As electricity faltered and supplies waned due to the chaos, Dr. Navid organized a small team of nurses, a few junior doctors, and volunteers to run the emergency ward. They worked with candlelight during power cuts, their faces lit by the flame, reminding them of their mission to bring light into the darkest hours.

Every day, the wards filled with civilians — children with shrapnel wounds, elderly patients suffering from stress-induced heart attacks, and young men with fractures from collapsing buildings. The medical supplies were limited, and sometimes they had to improvise bandages or sterilize instruments far more than they should. But Dr. Navid never lost hope.
