ASWED Central Region, with the support of Blessed Solar, has successfully provided solar lighting and heating support to 05 families currently living in tents in Sh*tmerg, Chipurson Valley.
A 5.6 kW Solar PV system with a 6 kW inverter and 5 kWh lithium-ion battery storage has been installed to ensure reliable energy access in harsh winter conditions.
Each camp has been allocated approximately 1 kW of power, including 30 running feet heating sheets per camp, enabling basic heating and lighting for families living in emergency shelters.
This initiative is part of ASWED’s ongoing winter response to support displaced families with safe, sustainable energy solutions while they continue to live in tents during extreme cold.
Small systems have a real impact.
Energy access means warmth, dignity, and safety.

ASWED Chipurson Reviews Earthquake Impact and Relief Delays in Chipursan Valley, Urges Immediate Climate-Hit Declaration

The Association for Social Welfare and Educational Development (ASWED), Chipursan (Central Body), convened a meeting in Islamabad to review the prevailing situation in Chipursan Valley and assess ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts following the recent earthquake-induced impacts in the region.

During the meeting, participants expressed serious concern over what they termed weak and slow progress by both the Gilgit-Baltistan and Federal governments in formally declaring all villages of Chipursan as a climate-hit area and announcing an emergency response. Reference was made to Notification No. Misc 5/468-74/2023, issued from Aliabad on 27 January 2026, with members stressing that delays in official notification are directly affecting the timely delivery of essential relief and rehabilitation support to affected communities.

The forum highlighted that, despite the severity of the situation, several vulnerable villages are still awaiting formal recognition—an essential prerequisite for unlocking structured government assistance and enabling a coordinated response mechanism.

Youth representatives from Chipursan, who also attended the meeting, strongly demanded that the entire region be immediately declared a climate-hit area. They called for the urgent approval and deployment of pre-fabricated tents and other essential relief supplies to support families enduring harsh winter conditions.

It was further shared that the Government of China has already approved the provision of pre-fabricated tents and heating coal for the affected population. However, this assistance remains pending due to required approvals and formal notifications from the concerned authorities.

In this context, the youth of Chipursan announced plans to meet federal minister Engr. Ameer Muqam on Tuesday to press for the immediate issuance of the official notification declaring Chipursan a climate-hit region and to expedite approvals for the relief materials already committed by the Chinese government.

ASWED members reiterated the urgency of the situation and called upon the relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent further hardship for the residents of Chipursan Valley.
