Oldest RNA Ever Discovered, a Window into the Past:-
Scientists have achieved a groundbreaking milestone by sequencing RNA from a 40,000-year-old woolly mammoth — the oldest RNA ever recovered. This extraordinary discovery reveals which genes were active in the mammoth’s cells, offering a rare glimpse into its biology, physiology, and the molecular events occurring near the end of its life. Researchers identified protein-coding RNA, microRNAs, and even previously unknown genes, proving that RNA can survive far longer than previously believed under the right conditions.
Why This Discovery Matters:-
Unlocking ancient RNA allows scientists to study extinct species with unprecedented precision, going beyond DNA to understand real-time gene activity and cellular function. This breakthrough opens new horizons in paleogenomics, evolutionary biology, and climate-adaptation research — showing that even after thousands of years, life continues to share its secrets with us.
