On 12th December, 2023, a massive show of support was organised for the people of Palestine currently undergoing a genocide by the SEECS 3rd year software engineering students of BESE 12-A under the guidance of Dr. Sobia Jamil. The event was conducted as an end-semester project for their course, Introduction to Management, at NUST sports ground.

The fundraiser served as a showcase of multiple local businesses, bringing in well-known sponsors, as well as giving student-owned businesses a chance to shine. A large number of students, faculty and staff members of NUST participated wholeheartedly in the event. Additionally, a special parade was also conducted with students and faculty marching side by side for Palestine. Pro Rector (Acad) Dr Osman Hasan also graciously took out time and participated in the event.

All in all, the event brought together the entire NUST family for a cause close to all our hearts and served as an excellent reminder of the empathy and unity that is characteristic of our community.

SEECS hosted a thought-provoking seminar on the 'Emerging Field of Quantum Key Distribution' under the supervision of Ms. Ayesha Habib on 6th Dec, 2023. In the seminar, Dr. Muhammad Imran, an esteemed Associate Professor at the National Institute of Lasers and Optronics (NILOP) College, PIEAS Islamabad, shared insights. His expertise spans Secure Quantum Cryptography, Quantum Computing, and Atomic Clocks, backed by a 2017 PhD in Quantum Optics from PIEAS. With 16 impactful international research papers in prestigious journals, Dr. Imran emphasized the pivotal role these fields play in revolutionizing technology which provided a futuristic vision to the students and faculty

Coventry University, UK Delegation Visit to NUST-SEECS

A delegation of 12 faculty members from Coventry University, UK visited the NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) on 1st December 2023. Visiting team was led by Prof Dr. Elena Gaura who also holds the distinguished position of adjunct faculty at SEECS, NUST.

Under the Coventry-NUST partnership, twin labs named ‘NUST-Coventry Internet of Things Lab (NCIL)” have been established at SEECS and Coventry respectively. This collaboration has resulted in the initiation of joint research projects and facilitated student exchanges. NCIL is actively pursuing applied research projects in the domains of environment monitory, healthcare, and smart agriculture to support UNSDGs.

Izzah Zaman is the Co-founder & CEO at Shadiyana. With an extensive experience as a software engineer specializing in data warehousing and big data, Izzah brings a diverse skill set encompassing management, data analytics, and policy education from Carnegie Mellon University.

📡 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿
Engr. Dr. Rabia Irfan has completed her PhD in Information Technology from NUST in 2018 and currently serving there as an Assistant Professor. Her specialization is in the area of Data Science and Machine Learning and she is currently heading Knowledge-based System (KBS) lab at SEECS, NUST. With the foundation of engineering domain and the applied side of Information Technology, her research interest particularly lies in incorporating analytics and decision making capabilities in the solution of real-world problems like in the domain of health, energy, power etc.

Professor Syed Ali Hassan (SEECS, NUST) has been awarded the Gold Medal from the P**istan Academy of Sciences for his meritorious contributions in the category of "Engineering Sciences".
Prof. Hassan completed his higher education at top universities in the USA and Germany. By profession, he is an electrical engineer and is now a professor at NUST, where he was also the head of the department of telecom group. He is the founder and director of a research lab at NUST and CTO of a US-based start-up. His research spans more than a decade of work in telecommunications and he has published over 250 articles in allied areas. He has graduated 65+ MS and 7 PhD students, won more than a dozen projects from various funding agencies across the globe, has been an international visiting professor, and is also a member of many national curriculum committees.

SEECS rekindles its talent essence with the triumphant return of SEECS Got Talent by SE 12 B, marking a transformative journey after a two-year hiatus. From orchestrating meticulous "Introduction to Management" projects to captivating a rolling audience of over 500, SE 12 B has not only embraced challenges but executed them with unparalleled finesse. This revival, guided by the dedicated faculty sponsor Dr. Sobia Jamil, not only illuminates SEECS but also signifies a commitment to a vibrant and enriched academic community, showcasing the collective brilliance of SE 12 B.

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO, formerly ISESCO) is a specialized organization that operates under the aegis of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation , and is concerned with fields of education, science, culture and communication in Islamic countries in order to support and strengthen relations among Member States. The Organization's headquarters is located in Rabat, Morocco.

ICESCO was founded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in May 1979, with 54 member states, the working languages of ICESCO are Arabic الإيسيسكو, English ICESCO in English and French ICESCO en français.

The United Nations Science Summit serves as a pivotal platform for global experts to share insights, innovations, and collaborations on critical scientific issues. In line with the summit's mission, a comprehensive 2-hour session dedicated to exploring how the strategic integration of artificial intelligence and data science can empower the financial sector to drive sustainable development by effectively aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is organized. This session aims to illuminate the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science in reshaping the landscape of business and finance while addressing emerging challenges and opportunities.
