The NUST Islamabad campus witnessed a spirited Green Walk bringing together the university community, led by Rector NUST Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif, in a collective expression of environmental responsibility and commitment to sustainability.

The Green Walk marked the 10th anniversary of International Day of University Sport (IDUS) with the International University Sports Federation (FISU) launching its global “10 Years – 10 Kilometers” initiative, inviting universities worldwide to organise a 10-kilometer sporting or physical activity.

The walk culminated with the address by Rector, who highlighted the importance of healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity in nurturing a healthier, more energetic and balanced community. He encouraged the NUST community to make wellness, physical activity and healthy choices an enduring part of everyday life.

The event also raised awareness against drug abuse, advocating for a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.

NUST welcomed a high-level 18-member delegation from Türkiye on September 15. The delegates included Vice Chancellors and Rectors of leading Turkish universities and senior officials of the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (CoHE). H.E. Irfan Neziroğlu, Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan, was also present at the occasion.

Welcoming the distinguished guests, Rector NUST Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif highlighted the importance of further strengthening institutional linkages between Pakistan and Türkiye and advancing meaningful partnerships across areas of mutual interest.

The session provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on strengthening academic and research linkages, advancing faculty and student mobility, and pursuing joint initiatives. The discussions also explored areas for building deeper and more enduring institutional partnerships between NUST and leading Turkish universities.

The visit also featured a guided tour of H-12 campus, with the delegation visiting the National Science & Technology Park (NSTP), School of Interdisciplinary Engineering & Sciences (SINES), Center for Emerging Technologies (CEMTECH), and the all-inclusive sports complex.

The visit reflects the strong bond between NUST and Turkish higher education institutions. It also provided a valuable platform for continued dialogue and the development of meaningful, long-term partnerships between the two countries.

NUST Centre for Counselling and Career Advisory (C3A), in collaboration with the HR Directorate, conducted a two-day sensitization training on the NUST Policy on Protection Against Harassment in August 2026 for nominated Focal Persons from the NUST H-12 Campus and Constituent Campuses.

The training focused on policy awareness, harassment recognition, and myths debunking regarding harassment, as well as informal and formal inquiry procedure and role of focal persons in handling harassment cases. The first day featured guest speaker Ms. Maliha Hussain, a seasoned expert from Mehergarh in harassment laws and organizational policy implementation. She shared valuable insights on harassment legislation and fostering a gender-sensitive, harassment-free environment.

On the second day, C3A focused on the practical application of these concepts, guiding 29 attendees through the harassment handling mechanism, their roles and responsibilities, confidentiality, and the due process involved in formal and informal inquiries. Such capacity-building efforts further reinforce NUST’s commitment to a safe, respectful and accountable environment.

NUST extends its heartiest congratulations to Ms. Aiza Kanwal, MS Physics student, at the School of Natural Sciences (SNS) for publishing a research article titled “Graphene and MXenes: performance–scalability trade-offs and application-driven materials selection in two-dimensional technologies” in Progress in Materials Science, a highly prestigious, top-tier international journal recognized among the leading journals in the field of materials science.

The publication was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Syed Rizwan Hussain, Head, Department of Physics & Astronomy, (SNS) and presents an application-driven framework for selecting next-generation two-dimensional materials by considering performance, scalability, stability, cost, manufacturability, and industrial readiness.

The journal holds exceptional recognition in the materials science community, with an Impact Factor of 42.9, CiteScore of 75.5, ranking in the 99th percentile, and being ranked No. 1 in General Materials Science.

NUST Admissions team visited Karnal Sher Khan Cadet College Swabi to conduct awareness session, as part of the UG Admissions Awareness Drive 2027. The session was attended by more than 550 cadets from SSC and HSSC streams.

The session was commenced by telecasting NUST documentary followed by detailed presentation covering the important facets of UG Admission process including the offered degree programmes, eligibility criteria, scholarship opportunities, incentives and on campus facilities.

The event concluded with a detailed Q&A session in which the cadets asked questions to clarify their doubts regarding the admissions process.

NUST is organising the Campus Green Walk as part of the International Day of University Sport (IDUS) 2026. This year marks the 10th anniversary of IDUS, with FISU launching its global “10 Years – 10 Kilometers” initiative to commemorate the milestone.

The 3.5 km walk will be followed by a tree plantation activity, bringing together the NUST community for a day of physical activity and participation.

NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (CEME) has been selected as the lead institution for a consortium implementing the Up-Skilling Training Program (USTP) under the National Semiconductor HR Development Program (NSHRDP–INSPIRE).

The programme is being executed by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) under the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication and aims to provide specialized, industry-oriented training in semiconductor and IC design technologies, develop a skilled national workforce, and prepare Pakistani graduates for high-value opportunities in the global chip industry.

The consortium is led by NUST College of EME, in collaboration with the NUST Chip Design Centre, with University of Engineering and Technology Lahore and the Islamia University of Bahawalpur as consortium partners. The formal signing ceremony for the programme was held at NUST College of EME. This initiative highlights NUST’s leading role in emerging technologies, advanced engineering education, and national capacity building in the semiconductor sector.
