Shari‘ah Academy Organizes Four-Day Orientation Course on Family Law in Islam for Lawyers
The Shari‘ah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), organized a four-day orientation course on Family Law in Islam for Lawyers, focusing specifically on contemporary family-related legal issues. The course provided an opportunity for lawyers to refresh and enhance their understanding of Islamic teachings and their application to family law in Pakistan.
The course covered major aspects of Islamic family law, with particular emphasis on marriage, divorce, khula, child custody, and inheritance. It also included a critical analysis of leading judgments of the higher judiciary concerning family law, enabling participants to examine the relationship between Islamic legal principles and their interpretation and application by Pakistani courts. The historical development and background of personal law in Pakistan was also discussed during the course.
The course featured a distinguished panel of resource persons, including Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General, Shari‘ah Academy; Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad, Associate Professor, Shari‘ah Academy; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Mansoori; Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Munir; Dr. Habib ur Rehman; Dr. Saqib Jawwad; Advocate Syed Umar Gillani; Dr. M***i Ghulam Majid; and Hafiz Ahmad Waqas. The resource persons delivered lectures and engaged with participants on various dimensions of Islamic family law and its contemporary legal challenges.
In the concluding session, the participants shared their views and expressed their appreciation for the course. They described the training as highly beneficial and useful for enhancing their understanding of Islamic family law and its practical application in legal practice.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General, Shari‘ah Academy, said that such specialized courses are arranged to provide legal professionals with opportunities to refresh and update their knowledge in areas relating to Islamic law. He emphasized that the Academy would continue organizing similar programmes on important and contemporary legal issues for lawyers and other professionals.

Shari‘ah Academy Organizes One-Day Islamic Law Orientation Course for Lawyers at Chiniot
As part of its continuing commitment to strengthening the understanding of Islamic law among legal professionals, the Shariah Academy organized a One-Day Islamic Law Orientation Course for Lawyers at the Library Auditorium of Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot. The program brought together members of the legal fraternity.
More than 70 lawyers from the District Bar Association Chiniot and adjoining bar associations participated in the orientation course.
In his inaugural remarks, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of the Shariah Academy, highlighted the significance of fostering a meaningful interface between Islamic jurisprudence and the contemporary legal profession.
He emphasized that a sound understanding of the principles, objectives, and methodology of Islamic law is indispensable for legal practitioners in Pakistan, whose constitutional framework recognizes the centrality of Islamic injunctions.
The course featured lectures by the Academy’s scholars including, Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Munir, Dr. Abdul Hameed, Dr. Naveed Altaf, and Mr. Hafiz Ahmad Waqas. Drawing upon classical Islamic legal sources as well as contemporary legal developments, the speakers presented scholarly analyses of the foundational concepts of Islamic jurisprudence and their practical significance in modern legal practice. The speakers discussed the wisdom underlying the Islamic law of inheritance, its detailed legal framework, and the practical issues encountered in its implementation within Pakistan's legal system.
Participants actively engaged in discussions concerning contemporary legal questions relating to succession and the harmonization of statutory law with the principles of Sharīʿah.
The program was graced by Mr. Ghulam Abbas Nissoana, Member, Punjab Bar Council, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he appreciated the initiative of the Shariah Academy in organizing such orientation courses for the legal community and underscored the importance of enhancing lawyers' understanding of Islamic jurisprudence alongside contemporary legal education. He observed that such programs contribute significantly to improving professional competence and strengthening the intellectual foundations of legal practice in Pakistan.
The event was also attended by the President of the District Bar Association, Chiniot, along with senior members of the local bar, advocates, scholars, faculty members, and students.
At the conclusion of the program, Sahibzada Muhammad Qamar Ul Haq, President of Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot, delivered the vote of thanks. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the scholars of the International Islamic University Islamabad, the Chief Guest, members of the legal fraternity, and all participants for contributing to the success of the program.

Shari‘ah Academy Organizes a Two-Day Law Orientation Course at Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot
The Shariah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), organized a Two-Day Law Orientation Course at Dar-ul-Hadith Auditorium, Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot.
The programme was a part of the Shariah Academy's continuing efforts to conduct outreach programs to promote legal literacy and strengthen the understanding of Pakistan's constitutional and judicial framework among religious scholars. The course sought to facilitate meaningful engagement between the traditional Islamic scholarly community and contemporary legal institutions by fostering an informed appreciation of the relationship between Islamic jurisprudence and Pakistan's constitutional and legal system.
The course was attended by 150 Ulema and Students. In the programme, the participants engaged in scholarly discussions, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and academic deliberations on a range of legal and constitutional issues of national importance. The course commenced with thematic opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of the Shariah Academy. In his inaugural address, he underscored the vital importance of strengthening intellectual engagement between the traditional institutions of Islamic learning and the contemporary legal and constitutional framework of Pakistan.
He emphasizing the Shariah Academy's mandate of bridging the gap between Islamic scholarship and modern legal education, he stated that such orientation programmes provide an effective platform for fostering constructive dialogue, promoting constitutional literacy, and equipping the ʿUlamāʾ with the knowledge necessary to address contemporary legal and societal issues.
The academic sessions were conducted by a panel of Academy’s scholars includes Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Munir, Dr. Abdul Hameed, Dr. Naveed Altaf, and Mr. Hafiz Ahmad Waqas. They delivered lectures covering the theoretical foundations and practical dimensions of Pakistan's legal system.
The course commenced with an introduction to the legal system of Pakistan, enabling participants to understand the historical development, sources, and structure of the country's legal framework. This was followed by comprehensive deliberations on the judicial system of Pakistan, during which the speakers explained the hierarchy of courts, the jurisdiction of constitutional and subordinate courts, and the functioning of the judicial process within the framework of the Constitution.
In addition to the scheduled academic sessions, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akram, Director General of the Shariah Academy, delivered a special extension lecture entitled "Self-Purification and Contemporary Challenges to the Muslim Ummah." In his thought-provoking address, he emphasized that legal knowledge and professional competence must be accompanied by spiritual purification, ethical integrity, and sincere commitment to Islamic values.
At the conclusion of the programme, Sahibzada Muhammad Qamar Ul Haq, President of Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot, delivered the vote of thanks. Shariah Academy has published the 2nd edition of Islamic Law of Inheritance: Practices in Pakistan by Dr. Shahbaz Ahmad Cheema, Professor of Law at University Law College, University of the Punjab.
The author has thoroughly revised this edition and added significant material on the use of information technology and online inheritance calculators in the field of inheritance. Furthermore, the book presents a comprehensive study of both the theoretical foundations and practical application of Islamic inheritance law in Pakistan, bridging classical jurisprudence with modern legal practice. In addition to the traditional law, the book analyses its application by Pakistani courts, e.g., Section 4 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance and the applicability of Law of Limitation to the matters pertaining to inheritance.
