Department of English AIOU Islamabad

Miss. Abeer Iftekhar and Mr. Khalid Zafar defended their M. Phil English theses in the Viva Voce Exam held in the Committee Room of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, Dean, presided over the defense, while Dr. Fasih Ahmed from COMSATS, Islamabad and Dr. Khurram Shahzad from NUML, Islamabad participated as external examiners.

The scholars were supervised by Dr. Munir Khan and Dr Rashida Imran, respectively.

Two M. Phil English (Linguistics) scholars Ms. Samina Najeeb and Ms. Zill e Huma successfully defended their theses.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, Dean, presided over the meeting. The scholars were supervised by Dr. Muhammad Kamal Khan and Dr. Ubaidullah Khan respectively. Dr. Umaima Kamran from Quaid e Azam University, Islamabad, and Dr. Anila Gill from NUML, Islamabad were the external examiners/ experts.

The Department of English AIOU held a session of the Research Proposal Committee for Batch III scholars of M. Phil English (Linguistics). The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Syed Amir Shah, Director Administration and attended by Dr. Muhammad Nawaz from COMSATS as subject expert, and the faculty members from the Department. The scholars presented their topics which were approved by the Committee after a thorough discussion.

Five day workshop on Undocumented and Under documented Language World of Pakistan co-organised by the Department of English, AIOU and Foreign Language Initiative (FLI) concluded today. Prof. Dr. Syed Amir Shah, Director Administration, AIOU, was chief guest in the closing ceremony. The participants hailed the workshop as a great success. They lauded the efforts of the organisers and thanked the Resource Person, Professor Dr. Henrik Liljigreen from University of Stockholm, Sweden, for equipping them with essential linguistic and research skills such as phonological analysis (Praat), dictionary development (FLEx) and reference arrangement (Zotero) etc. The Worksop concluded with a vote of Thanks from the Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Kamal Khan.

Day-4 of "Exploring Undocumented and Under documented Language World of Pakistan". Professor Dr. Henrik Liljigreen from Stockholm University sharing his expertise regarding creating a dictionary.

Day 2 of the one week Workshop on Endangered Languages of Pakistan being held at the Main Campus, Allama Iqbal Open University. Professor Henrik Liljigreen from University of Stockholm shares his insights about Documentation Data and Data Types, Annotation and Basic Acoustic Analysis using Praat.

Department of English AIOU held a meeting of the Departmental Synopsis Committee for PhD English on 9-4-2025. Prof. Dr. Arshad Mehmood, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, NUML, Islamabad, and Prof. Dr. Serwat Rasool, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi graced the meeting as subject experts. Samina Rana and Salahuddin presented their topics which were unanimously approved by the Committee.

The Department of English held its Departmental Synopsis Committee meeting at the Resource Center, Block 8.
Prof. Dr. Arshad Mehmood, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad, and Prof. Dr. Sarwat Rasool, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Fatima Jinnah University, Rawalpindi, reviewed the PhD scholars' synopses as External Subject Experts. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Muhammad Kamal Khan, Chairman, and was attended by the students and their supervisors.

The Department of English conducted Viva Voce Examination of MA TEFL students at the Main Campus. Ms Asma Rabbani, Ms Zarveena, Mr Aamir and Ms Mehwish defended their theses.

Dr Ismael Abbasi from postgraduate college Rawalpindi participated as External Expert while Dr Munir Khan Khattak was internal Examiner.
