The core of linguistic studies is the study of language structure at different levels as discussed above. In the growth of modern linguistics as an autonomous field of knowledge, it has been necessary to emphasize this aspect of linguistics, since no other field of study describes language structure systematically and completely. However, there are many areas of human activity and knowledge in which language plays a part and linguistics is useful in these areas. The study of language in relation to the many areas of knowledge where it is relevant, has led to the growth of many branches of linguistics. Thus the scope of linguistics has grown to include these branches. Linguistics can be classified into two major branches according to language scholars:

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 is the branch of linguistics that is most concerned with developing models of linguistic knowledge. The fields that are generally considered the core of theoretical linguistics are syntax, phonology, morphology, and semantics. Although phonetics often informs phonology, it is often excluded from the purview of theoretical linguistics, along with psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics. Theoretical linguistics also involves the search for an explanation of linguistic universals, that is, properties all languages have in common.

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 the study of language-related issues applied in everyday life, notably language policies, planning, and education. It is the application of linguistics theories to evaluate the language problems arisen from other professions like sociology,
psychology, ethnology, geography, neurology, biology, and history etc.
Various branches of linguistics have grown because language is intimately related both to the inner, world of man’s mind and to the outer world of society and social relationships. Each of these aspects has led to the study of psycho-linguistics and sociolingui

Names of Family members in English:

1. Grandmother - دادی/نانی

2. Grandfather - دادا/نانا

3. Grandparent - دادا/دادی/نانا/نانی

To be specific:

Paternal Grandfather - دادا
Paternal Grandmother - دادی
Maternal Grandmother - نانی
Maternal Grandfather - نانا

We generally use the word 'Grandparent' to refer to
دادا/دادی/نانا/نانی

4. Granddaughter - نواسی/پوتی

5. Grandson - نواسہ/پوتا

6. Grandchild - نواسی/پوتی/نواسہ/پوتا

7. Aunt - چاچی/تایی/پھوپھی /خالہ/مامی
For example: She is my aunt (not: She is my aunty)

8. Uncle - چچا/تایا/پھوپھا/ماما/خالو

9. Niece - بھتیجی/بھانجی

10. Nephew - بھتیجا/بھانجا

11. Cousin - چاچی/تایی/پھوپھی /خالہ/مامی کے بچے

Tip: We don't need to say 'Cousin Brother' or 'Cousin Sister' - just 'cousin' is enough. For example: She is my cousin (not: She is my cousin sister)

12. Sister-in-law - نند/بهابی/جٹهانی/دیورانی/سالی

13. Brother-in-law - بہنوئی/دیور/جیٹه/سالی کا خاوند/سالہ

14. Mother-in-law - ساس

15. Father-in-law - سسر
