Department of Home affairs has announced that “Following the announcement of the 1 July 2024 implementation of changes to the Temporary Graduate Visa (TGV), the Department of Home Affairs has received a significant amount of feedback on the impact of the reduced age requirement on post graduate research students. Following further consideration of these impacts, a decision has been made that Masters (research) and doctoral degree (PhD) graduates will continue be eligible for a TGV if they are under 50 years of age.”

An overhaul of student visa processes could soon allow applicants to use the education pathway as a means to migrate to Australia and join the nation's workforce upon completing their studies.

International students will be allowed to express their intent to migrate in their visa applications under new reforms by the Albanese government. The changes are part of a transition to a new test for internationals students which favors permanent over temporary migration.

This is a long anticipated reform addressing the ongoing debate of “GTE - Genuine Temporory Entry” requirement when education agents and students prepare their student visa applications.
