Taboo!: The Hidden Culture of a Red Light Area by Dr. Fouzia Saeed is an in-depth exploration of Pakistan’s Heera Mandi, Lahore's historic red-light district. Drawing from her years of research and personal encounters, Dr. Fouzia Saeed sheds light on the lives of women working as dancers and s*x workers, as well as the complex socio-cultural dynamics that both enable and constrain them.
The book goes beyond stereotypes, presenting the individuals within Heera Mandi as multifaceted people mothers, daughters, and artists caught in a web of societal judgment, tradition, and economic hardship.
Dr. Fouzia Saeed highlights the struggles, resilience, and aspirations of these women, offering readers an intimate perspective into a world shrouded in mystery and often stigmatized by society.
Through rich storytelling, Taboo! confronts social hypocrisy and challenges readers to question their own perceptions of morality, honor, and agency. It is both a critique of societal norms and an empathetic portrayal of individuals striving to reclaim dignity in a life often fraught with harsh realities.

Short Story: The War
In the rubble of a shattered village, a tiny hand reached out from a crack in a crumbling wall. Behind it, wide, terrified eyes peered into the cold, empty world outside a world that had once held laughter, warmth, and family, all now buried beneath the ruins of war.
A passing soldier, numb to the horrors he’d seen, froze at the sight. Kneeling, he gently took the small hand in his own, feeling its frail warmth. For a moment, he saw all that had been lost the innocence stolen, the life interrupted.
With tears he’d forgotten he could shed, he whispered, “You’re not alone.”
