An enriching field excursion to Shahdra Valley was organized under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zafar for BS Botany (1st Semester) students. The trip focused on algal and plant collection, highlighting the ecological significance and conservation of biodiversity in natural habitats.

Department of Plant Sciences proudly congratulates Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zafar on receiving 3rd Gold Medal Award in 2025 (Prof. Dr. Nuzhat Sial ), conferred by the Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the fields of Taxonomy and Biodiversity.

Dr. Zafar’s unwavering dedication to scientific excellence has significantly advanced our understanding of Pakistan’s rich biological heritage. His remarkable research has inspired a new generation of taxonomists and biodiversity scholars.

Today Delegation of the Institute of Botany, National Academy of Sciences, Azerbaijan Visits QAU

A distinguished high-level delegation from the Institute of Botany, National Academy of Sciences, Azerbaijan, visited Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, on the special invitation of Professor Dr. Muhammad Zafar (Palynology Lab.) Department of Plant Sciences. The visit was facilitated by the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), Islamabad.

Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar (S.I.), Vice Chancellor, QAU, warmly welcomed the delegation. In his remarks, he highlighted the university’s outstanding achievements, including its recognition as Pakistan’s No. 1 University by both the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (137th in Asia, 315th globally) and the QS World University Rankings (354th globally). He emphasized the strong prospects for future collaboration and institutional partnerships, appreciating the delegation’s visit as a step toward strengthening academic and research ties.

During the session, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq Ali, Director ORIC and Chairperson, Department of Microbiology, presented QAU’s research initiatives, ongoing projects, and academic strengths.

The delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Sayyara Ibadullayeva, Director of the Institute of Botany, included senior officials: Prof. Dr. Dilzara Aghayeva, Prof. Nigar Mursal, Prof. Hilal Imanli, Dr. Ulkar Mammadova, Dr. Emil Shukurlu, Mr. Ibrahim Jafarli, and Ms. Leyla Ahemedova.

The visit marks a significant milestone in promoting scientific cooperation and fostering future partnerships between Azerbaijan and Pakistan in the field of plant sciences and beyond.
