Mr. Imran Waqar successfully defended his thesis work during the 3rd Training and Workshop in front of a panel of experts. His research focuses on aplite-bearing critical mineralization within granitic terrains, particularly in greenfield areas where geological research and publicly available data are very limited.
His research is supported through a grant under the Research on Industry–Academia Linkage initiative and is being conducted under the supervision of Syed Nohman Gillani, Lead Geologist & GM Exploration CGC and HEC.

Mr. Imran Waqar has done an excellent job in investigating these relatively unexplored areas. His research provides valuable field-based geological information on aplite-associated critical mineralization and contributes to a better understanding of the critical mineral potential of granitic terrains in greenfield areas.

Six Years Later, the Mountains Still Have More to Tell.
Six years ago, we first worked in the challenging terrain of Shonthar Valley, Azad Kashmir, to understand its geology, trace mineralized zones, and assess its potential for ruby mineralization. That early fieldwork taught us some of the most valuable lessons of geology careful observation, persistence, adaptability, and respect for the complexity of natural systems. Today, with greater field experience and a more refined perspective, we return to revisit the mapped areas, investigate unresolved zones, and build upon the work left incomplete. The valley’s basement and metasedimentary rocks, together with its faults, shear zones, folds, lithological contacts, and mineral assemblages, continue to provide important clues to the controls on ruby mineralization. Six years on, we may have more experience, but the mountains still have plenty of questions and perhaps a few more answers waiting for us.

The sample shows well-developed gossans formed as a result of the weathering and oxidation of sulphide minerals, indicating the possible presence of sulphide mineralization at depth.
