A literature review should do much more than summarize previous studies.
A strong literature review should critically analyze existing research, evaluate evidence, connect studies, identify important patterns, and clearly establish the research gap your study intends to address.
Warning signs include relying heavily on description, using weak or outdated sources, failing to identify a clear research gap, and presenting studies without building a coherent academic argument.
If your literature review feels like a collection of summaries rather than a connected scholarly discussion, it may need further development.
