Firdowsi spent all his adult life writing Shahnameh. It is said that he used to sit in his room which just had a small candle that lit the paper on which he wrote. In that darkness he visualized the battle scenes and penned them down in the longest poem ever written by a single human. Shahnameh is longer than Iliad and Odyssey combined, a remarkable work of aesthetic beauty and history.
