Department of Pulmonology Holds Academic Presentation on “Chest Tube and Indwelling Pleural Catheters U/S Chest”
The Department of Pulmonology & Critical Care Unit at Isra University Hospital Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Pakistan Chest Society Sindh Chapter, successfully organized an academic presentation on “Chest Tube and Indwelling Pleural Catheters U/S Chest” as part of the Pre-ChestCon 2026 activities.
The session brought together consultants, postgraduate trainees, house officers, and healthcare professionals from different institutions for an engaging academic and hands-on learning experience.
The scientific session was moderated by Dr. Komal Anwar and Dr. Maham Khan, and began with a welcome address by Dr. Saima Jatoi, Head of the Department of Pulmonology & Critical Care Unit, whose efforts and leadership played a key role in organizing the event.

One-Day Awareness Seminar on International Fistula Day 2026 Held at Isra University Hyderabad
Hyderabad – May 21, 2026: A One-Day Awareness Seminar on Obstetric Fistula was organized in connection with International Fistula Day by the Pakistan National Forum on Women’s Health – Karachi (PNFWH) at the Qazi Asadullah Auditorium, Isra University Hyderabad.
Held under the IDEOF 2026 theme “Her Health Is a Right: Invest to End Fistula and Childbirth Injuries,” the seminar aimed to raise awareness regarding obstetric fistula, maternal healthcare, safe childbirth practices, and women’s reproductive health rights.
The event brought together healthcare professionals, gynecologists, obstetricians, faculty members, students, nurses, and public health experts to discuss the prevention, treatment, causes, and social impact of obstetric fistula and childbirth-related injuries.
Prof. Dr. Pushpa Sirichand and Prof. Gulfareen Arain, Heads of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and key organizers of the seminar, highlighted that specialized centers at Isra University Hospital Hyderabad and Karachi are providing free treatment for fistula patients. They appreciated the support of the management and partner organizations in continuing these healthcare services.
Vice Chancellor Isra University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Waliullah Kazi, stated that obstetric fistula is a treatable and preventable condition, but lack of awareness remains a major challenge. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to strengthen awareness campaigns and improve maternal healthcare understanding within communities.
Prof. Dr. Sajjad Kazi shared that fistula treatment services at the institution have expanded significantly and currently all VVF cases are being treated free of cost. He also highlighted the importance of teamwork in improving patient care and healthcare access.
The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion session and a collective commitment to continue advocacy and awareness efforts for eliminating obstetric fistula and improving maternal healthcare services across Pakistan.

Down Syndrome Awareness Session Held at Isra University Hospital in Collaboration with KDSP
HYDERABAD – May 19, 2026: Isra University Hospital in collaboration with Karachi Down Syndrome Program (KDSP) organized a Down Syndrome Awareness Session aimed at promoting awareness, inclusion, acceptance, and support for individuals with Down syndrome.
The session was attended by esteemed guests Miss Sara Asif and Mr. Furqan Hamid, Assistant Manager KDSP, who shared valuable insights regarding awareness, support systems, and the importance of creating an inclusive society for individuals with Down syndrome.
The event was moderated by Dr. Isra Ilyas and Dr. Misbah Zehra, who conducted the session proceedings and interactive discussions throughout the program.
During the session, Dr. Sana Zain, Prof. Dr. Akbar Memon, and Dr. Mehmood-ul-Hasan Mughal also shared their thoughts on the significance of early intervention, healthcare support, education, and community awareness for individuals with special needs.
