The Department of Social Work successfully organized a highly engaging and impactful awareness session titled “Empowering the Youth Through Digital Advocacy” on 6th May 2026, aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of the role of digital platforms in promoting inclusive, ethical, and sustainable social change. The session was graced by Dr. Muhammad Ramzan Pahore, Assistant Professor, Department of Media and Communication Studies, University of Sindh, who delivered an insightful talk on the transformative power of digital media in shaping informed, responsible, and socially conscious youth. The discussion emphasized how digital engagement can be directed toward constructive social transformation, particularly through awareness, advocacy, and civic responsibility.

✨ Awareness Session on Women Rights ✨
The Department of Social Work successfully organized an informative and inspiring awareness session on "Women Rights" on 6th May 2026. Mr. Junaid Soomro, faculty member at the Institute of Gender Studies, University of Sindh, was the guest speaker of the session. The session aimed to promote awareness regarding women’s rights, gender equality, and the collective responsibility of society in empowering women.
During the session, the speaker highlighted the major challenges faced by women in society and emphasized the importance of ensuring equal opportunities in education, healthcare, employment, and decision-making processes. He shared that women are the foundation of a progressive and peaceful society, and sustainable development cannot be achieved without protecting and respecting their rights.
The discussion focused on encouraging youth to stand against discrimination, harassment, domestic violence, and all forms of injustice against women. Special emphasis was placed on the transformative role of education in women’s empowerment and community development. The session also acknowledged the importance of educational institutions in promoting dignity, equality, inclusion, and social justice.

The Department of Social Work, University of Sindh successfully organized an impactful awareness session on “Menstrual Health & Hygiene: Empowering Women with Care and Awareness” on 4th May 2026. The session aimed to promote awareness regarding menstrual health, personal hygiene, and the importance of informed self-care among young women.
The session was delivered by Dr. Mahreen Sangrasi, whose valuable insights and interactive discussion made the session highly informative and engaging for the participants. Special appreciation is also extended to Dr. Erum Shah for her support and guidance in making the session successful.
The primary objectives of the session were to create awareness among girls regarding personal and menstrual hygiene, educate them about healthy hygiene practices, encourage open discussion on menstrual health issues, and provide accurate information for preventing infections and maintaining overall well-being. The session also focused on motivating participants to adopt safe and hygienic practices in their daily lives.
Most participants were students from 1st and 2nd year who initially had limited knowledge regarding menstrual health and female hygiene. Through interactive discussion and awareness-based learning, participants gained improved understanding, confidence, and awareness related to menstrual health management. Many students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their perspectives, which further strengthened the learning environment.
A small pre- and post-session activity was also conducted to assess participants’ knowledge before and after the awareness session. The activity reflected a positive improvement in participants’ understanding and awareness regarding menstrual health and hygiene practices. The session further encouraged students to share this important knowledge within their homes, communities, and rural areas to promote healthier and more informed societies.

The Department of Social Work, University of Sindh successfully organized an awareness session on “Gender-Based Violence: Prevention & Awareness” on 5th May 2026 at the Seminar Hall of the Department of Social Work. The session was held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with the participation of 81 students from various departments of the university. The event aimed to educate and sensitize youth regarding the causes, impacts, prevention, and collective responsibility in addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and promoting a culture of dignity, equality, and respect.
The distinguished guest speaker, Amar Sindhu, delivered a highly impactful and interactive session on gender-based violence, harassment, women’s rights, human rights, and social justice. Being one of the leading voices in Sindhi literature and social advocacy, Madam Amar Sindhu highlighted different forms of GBV including physical, emotional, economic, and structural violence. She further discussed how patriarchy, silence, and harmful social norms contribute to the continuation of violence and discrimination in society.
During her address, she also shared an overview of legal protections and relevant laws in Pakistan related to domestic violence and harassment. Emphasizing the role of youth in creating social change, she powerfully stated: “If we want to raise our voice against injustice, we must first break our own silence.” She encouraged students to become active advocates for equality, peace, and justice, and to speak up for their own rights as well as the rights of marginalized and vulnerable communities.
The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer discussion where students actively shared reflections, experiences, and ideas regarding the prevention of GBV and the promotion of safer educational and social environments. Participants expressed increased awareness and motivation to address issues of violence and discrimination within their communities.
The event was smoothly managed by the organizing team including Fareena (Lead Host), Noor (Photography), and Parveen (Attendance & Registration), whose efforts contributed to the successful ex*****on of the program.

Training Session on UrduAi
Department of Social Work, University of Sindh, Jamshoro
The UrduAi Platform, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work at the University of Sindh, successfully organized a comprehensive UrduAi Training Session on April 20, 2026. Held at the Department of Social Work, the session engaged more than 70 first-year students, reflecting a strong interest in adopting emerging technologies within an academic context.
A distinctive feature of this session was its delivery entirely in Urdu, aiming to make Artificial Intelligence tools more accessible and relatable for students. The initiative was designed not only to build digital competencies but also to promote the UrduAi platform by demonstrating that advanced AI technologies are available and usable in Pakistan’s national language. This approach significantly reduced the language barrier often associated with technological learning and enabled students to engage more confidently with AI tools.
The session was facilitated by Saif Ali, with support from peer educator Tarique Siyal, who provided an interactive and practical learning experience. The trainers highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence in modern education and emphasized how AI can support academic research, enhance productivity, foster creativity, and contribute to career development.
Students were introduced to a curated range of AI-powered tools, including ChatGPT, Google Gemini, NotebookLM, Canva, and DeepSeek, along with various transcription and productivity applications. All tools were demonstrated with an emphasis on Urdu language interaction, making it easier for students to understand, practice, and apply these technologies in their academic work.
The session successfully achieved its dual purpose: enhancing students’ digital literacy and promoting inclusive access to AI through the Urdu language. By making AI learning more approachable and user-friendly, the initiative empowered students to utilize these tools effectively and ethically in their studies and future careers.

The session aimed to promote preventive healthcare practices among students by highlighting the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of chronic diseases. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of lifestyle medicine as a critical component in achieving sustainable health outcomes, particularly in developing contexts like Pakistan.
The session was effectively hosted by Fareena, a final-year Social Work student, who facilitated the proceedings and introduced the theme to participants. The keynote speaker, Mr. Kaleemullah, a faculty member of the department of Social Work, delivered an insightful and practical session focusing on nutrition, regular physical activity, and stress management as essential pillars of a healthy life. His interactive approach encouraged students to reflect on their daily habits and understand the long-term benefits of preventive health practices.
Approximately 80 students, including both male and female participants, attended the session, demonstrating strong engagement and interest throughout. The interactive discussion allowed students to ask questions and share their perspectives, making the session participatory and impactful. The event also showcased effective teamwork among student volunteers, with Noor Ahmed managing photography and video documentation, Majid and Asad handling attendance and registration, and Arbaz overseeing audience and hall management, ensuring smooth ex*****on.

Seminar on Creating Awareness to Differentiate Between Right & Erroneous Usage of Social Media
A seminar titled “To Create Awareness Among Students to Differentiate Between Right & Erroneous Usage of Social Media” was successfully held on 10th March 2026 at the Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. The event was organized by the Ministry of Human Rights, Islamabad, in collaboration with the Department of Social Work, University of Sindh.
The program commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem, setting a formal and respectful tone for the seminar.
The session was moderated by Mr. Muddasar Altaf, Assistant Director, Ministry of Human Rights, along with Ms. Sajida Khaskheli and Mr. Sajjad, who ensured smooth facilitation of the proceedings.
In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Nanik Ram, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, emphasized the increasing influence of social media in shaping public opinion and highlighted the importance of responsible and ethical digital engagement among students.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Pasha, Director, Regional Office of Human Rights, Karachi, Ministry of Human Rights. His presentation on “National and International Obligations related to Human Rights” provided a comprehensive overview of Pakistan’s commitments under international human rights frameworks, with particular emphasis on freedom of expression, privacy, and protection from digital harm.
Dr. Muhammad Arshad, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, University of the Punjab, Lahore, delivered an insightful presentation on “Right & Erroneous Usage of Social Media.” He elaborated on key concerns such as misinformation, cyberbullying, hate speech, and ethical responsibilities in digital communication. He also guided students on fact-checking, responsible content sharing, and understanding the legal implications of online behavior.
Dr. Erum Shah, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, presented on “Role of Academia for Youth Empowerment.” She highlighted the role of higher education institutions in fostering critical thinking, media literacy, and civic responsibility, enabling youth to become informed and responsible digital citizens.
The seminar witnessed active participation, with more than 200 students, faculty members, and representatives from civil society in attendance, reflecting strong engagement and interest in the subject matter.
In his vote of thanks and concluding remarks, Dr. Syed Faisal Hyder Shah, Chairman, Department of Social Work, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, summarized the key insights of the seminar and stressed the critical importance of effective time management among students. He highlighted that excessive use of social media is increasingly leading to reduced concentration, disturbed sleep patterns, and diminished patience among youth. He further observed that many students are becoming accustomed to consuming only short-form content, such as reels, which limits their ability to engage with longer, more meaningful academic and intellectual material.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates among participating students, followed by the presentation of souvenirs to the guests and a group photograph.

International Women’s Day 2026 ❤️
On 9th March 2026, the Department of Social Work, University of Sindh, Jamshoro celebrated International Women’s Day in collaboration with the Marie Stopes Society, with support from the Women Development Department and the Social Welfare Department, Government of Sindh. The program was designed in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing gender equality, education, health, social inclusion, and community engagement.
The event brought together government officials, faculty members, students, and NGO representatives, and was effectively coordinated by Mr. Sajjad Ahmed (DEO, Hyderabad District, Marie Stopes Society) and Ms. Sajida Khaskheli (Teaching Assistant, Department of Social Work).
