Seminar on “ELT in Transition: Aligning Language Teaching and Teacher Education with 21st-Century Skills and Industry Demands” Held at GC University Hyderabad

The Department of English Language and Literature (DELL), GC University Hyderabad, organised a seminar titled “ELT in Transition: Aligning Language Teaching and Teacher Education with 21st-Century Skills and Industry Demands.”

The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Sajida Zaki, Chairperson, Department of English Linguistics and Allied Sciences, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, who spoke on the evolving landscape of English Language Teaching and emphasised the need to integrate 21st-century skills with industry demands.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan, in his remarks, appreciated the initiative and underscored the importance of such academic engagements in enhancing students’ learning and professional development.

Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof. Dr. Makhdoom Muhammad Roshan Siddiqui was also present on the occasion.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the vice chancellor presented souvenirs to the guest speaker.

Chairman DELL Prof. Dr. Liaqat Ali Channa expressed his gratitude to the guest speaker for her insightful session and thanked the participants for their active engagement.

The Department of English Language and Literature (DELL) at Government College University, Hyderaba executed "The Critics’ Trial: The Divine and the Human", a literary project directed by Dr. Qurratulain Sardar.

This performance, carried out by the DELL BS English Students, was an intellectual exploration of literature, philosophy, and the human condition.

The trial featured iconic literary figures including Samuel Johnson, William Shakespeare, John Milton, Alexander Pope, Dr. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Voltaire, who engaged in a courtroom dialogue.

Alongside them, characters like Lady Macbeth, Satan, Eve, and Macbeth were also brought to life to represent different aspects of human nature.

The performance delved into the struggle between the divine and the human, questioning morality, rebellion, and the pursuit of meaning.

The event aimed to challenge the audience’s thoughts on the complexities of human existence and the divine forces at play.

It was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Saqib Buriro from the University of Mirpurkhas, Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Channa, Dr. Niaz H. Soomro, Dr. Zahid Ali, and other esteemed faculty members. Their participation added immense value to the event, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Linguistics Project Display: Meaning, Style & Context

The Department of English Language and Literature at GC University Hyderabad organised a project-based assessment on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Academic Block, where BS 2023 and 2024 students showcased projects grounded in real-life contexts, reflecting both conceptual clarity and creativity.

The activity was supervised by Lecturer Ms Tehmina Kalwar, under whose courses the projects were carried out.

Dr. Saira Niaz, Associate Professor at the Institute of English Language and Literature, University of Sindh, and Ms. Nazia Koonj, Lecturer at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro served as judges for the projects, evaluating students’ work on both analytical depth and presentation.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Moazzam Ali Khan, along with Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof. Dr. Makhdoom Muhammad Roshan Siddiqui, Chairperson Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Channa, and other faculty members, visited the display and appreciated the students’ creative work and linguistic insight.

The project-based assessment significantly enhanced students’ critical thinking, practical application of linguistic concepts, and confidence in presenting academic ideas in real-world contexts."

The Project Role Play Series, organized by the Department of English Language and Literature, was a resounding success. Directed by Dr. Qurratulain Sardar, the event featured powerful performances that captured the audience’s attention. Special thanks to Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Channa for his continuous encouragement and support throughout the process.

We were honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Fatah Soomro along with Dr. Niaz H. Soomro and Dr. Zahid, who added value to the event. Special thanks to Mr. Pervaiz Solangi too, who, as a judge, provided valuable insights and constructive feedback to the participants.

The series featured a number of compelling role plays: The Mirror, Cross Roads, Who Am I, Really?, and The Edge of Change, The Silence Stage, and The Unspoken Truth. Each performance explored deep themes of identity, choice, and truth, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

Last but not the least, BIG thank you to all the faculty members for their support, ensuring the event’s seamless ex*****on and making it a memorable success.

GC University Hyderabad hosts DELL Dialogue

The Department of English Language and Literature (DELL) at GC University Hyderabad held a seminar titled "DELL Dialogue with Dr. Syed Abdul Manan: A widely authored researcher in Sociolinguistics" on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The dialogic seminar was chaired by Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Makhdoom Muhammad Roshan Siddiqui, while Chairman of the Department Prof Dr Liaquat Ali Channa was also present.

Held at the university’s smart classroom, the session was attended by faculty members and research scholars enrolled in MPhil and PhD programmes in English (Linguistics).

In a the format of dialogical question-answer session, Dr Manan spoke on key issues in sociolinguistics, including language policy, multilingual education and the evolving role of English in global contexts. Drawing on his research experience, he highlighted contemporary debates and emerging trends in sociolinguistic studies.

Participants described the session as useful, particularly for students and researchers interested in sociolinguistics and its real-world applications.

The DELL Dialogue Series aims to provide a platform for academic exchange by bringing scholars and researchers to interact with students and faculty at the university.
