The Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, along with Former Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, inaugurated the modern Faculty of Engineering and Technology Campus at Karakoram International University Gilgit
During the visit, the delegation was briefed at the newly established Mining Engineering Department, where Prof. Dr. Khan Gul Jadoon, the Head of Mining Engineering Department, along with senior faculty members and staff, presented an overview of the state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, and academic programs. They highlighted the department’s strategic role in developing skilled professionals and supporting the exploration and sustainable utilization of Gilgit-Baltistan’s vast mineral resources.
The Federal Minister appreciated the department’s vision and its significant contribution toward strengthening the region’s mining sector through advanced technical education and research..

Program Description:
Mining Engineering is a 4-year degree program in the Department of Mining Engineering, KIU. This is the first ever program accredited by the Engineering Council (PEC) under the Outcome-based Education System. The department is situated in the newly constructed state-of-the-art building of Engineering Block at KIU with modern and well-equipped labs for research and hands-on training.

The survey camp concluded on a high note, receiving commendable remarks. On the final day, an advanced Drone camera technology was utilized, remarkably completing a week's worth of work in just one hour.

Students successfully created a comprehensive topographic map on sheet, showcasing their week-long efforts. The exercise culminated in outstanding feedback from the participants, praising the Department of Mining Engineering for the enriching experience.
