Imran Khan, a proud alumnus of Karakoram International University (KIU), has been selected to participate in the prestigious Kashmir Supreme League following recent trials held in Gilgit.
The trials were overseen by former international cricket star Shahid Khan Afridi, who also visited KIU to lead a special cricket program aimed at nurturing local talent. Imran’s selection is a proud moment not only for him but also for KIU, reflecting the university’s commitment to supporting excellence in sports alongside academics.
Expressing his gratitude, Imran said, “I am honored to be an alumnus of Karakoram International University. I will do my best to represent my university with dedication and pride in the Kashmir Supreme League.”

Four alumni from the Department of English at Karakoram International University (KIU) have achieved global recognition for their groundbreaking research, bringing pride to Gilgit-Baltistan’s academic community. Basit Ali, Uzair Ahmad, Anusha Khan, and Anara co-authored a study titled "Gilgit-Baltistan’s Endangered Medicinal Plants," which was presented and published at the TESOL International Conference hosted by Hawai'i Pacific University, United States.
This significant achievement underscores the region’s growing contributions to global research. The study explores the urgent need to protect endangered medicinal plants in Gilgit-Baltistan, bridging ecological preservation with linguistic and cultural insights.
Their success has been widely celebrated, with academic and societal circles in Gilgit-Baltistan acknowledging their dedication and innovation. The paper’s inclusion in a prestigious international forum reaffirms KIU’s commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration.

GBRSP, in collaboration with the GLOF-II project and with technical support from KIU, organized a one-day workshop at Ramada Hotel Gilgit on Climate Resilient Infrastructure Guidelines. The event, attended by engineers and planners from Gilgit, marked the culmination of a series of district-level workshops aimed at enhancing stakeholder capacity.
Developed by the KIU team under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, the guidelines integrate global best practices to address the impacts of climate change on critical infrastructure in GB, including buildings, roads, energy, and water sectors.
Keynote sessions by the KIU team, including Dr. Zafar Khan, highlighted climate resilience concepts and their application to infrastructure planning and design. GLOF-II Coordinator Rashid Khan and GBRSP Program Manager Usman Gandapur emphasized the need for active implementation by policymakers and field engineers. Participant feedback was collected to refine the guidelines further, with the VC KIU acknowledging the vital role of engineers and appreciating the partnership with GLOF-II and GBRSP.
