Positive Aspects:
Sohail Afridi raised his voice on public issues, including student problems and disputes with the federal government. Following PTI’s tradition, street power and protests remain his main political weapon. He also emphasized peaceful protest, which is a constitutional right.
Critical Analysis:
• Burden on the Public: Blocking long stretches of roads in and around Islamabad caused severe hardship for millions of ordinary citizens, travelers, ambulance services, and daily wage workers. While protest is a right, when it paralyzes daily life, it stops being people-friendly and becomes anti-people.
• Failure of Governance: As Chief Minister, his primary responsibility is to maintain peace, provide good governance, and focus on development in KP. Persistent street protests against the federal government, while the province faces serious challenges like terrorism, economic issues, education, and health, reflect poor leadership priorities.
• Political Theater: The protest appeared heavily guided by Imran Khan’s instructions, exposing PTI’s internal dynamics. When your own party is in power in the province, constantly weakening the federation through street agitation looks like a mockery of the public mandate.
• Consequences: Road blockades hurt the national economy and livelihoods. They also increase tension between police and citizens. This creates noise and drama but offers no long-term solutions
