Rs. 25,000/- per month. The applicant must enrolled student of PhD Food Technology/Human Nutrition &
Dietetics, in the project titled “Development and nutritional evaluation of micronutrients fortified rice-based sweet
snack bars made from parboiled puffed rice for school nutrition programs” funded by HEC. The project duration

The National Institute of Food Science & Technology, Faculty of Food, Nutrition & Home Sciences is pleased to announce an International Workshop on “Research Methods in Nutrition” with the collaboration of University of Chester and University of Reading, UK on December 13-14, 2016 at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF). The main objective of this activity is capacity building of the students and professionals to cope up with challenges in the domain of human nutrition and effective collaboration and networking for overall improvement. This workshop will be attended by the food and nutrition students and professionals across the country. Additionally, we are expecting that representatives of nutrition partners in Pakistan like SUN, WFP, MI, GAIN, UNICEF, USAID, FAO and Planning Commission (Nutrition Section) will also participate and share their activities to alleviate malnutrition in the country.

The National Institute of Food Science & Technology (NIFSAT), University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) is an internationally and nationally recognized teaching and research body in Pakistan. Being a premier institution, it has been our philosophy to promote competent, vigorous and entrepreneurial environment concerning food & nutrition-related activities in the country. For the purpose, we routinely organize up-to-date conferences, symposia and training programmes to support the study of most vibrant disciplines of food, nutrition and allied sciences.

The National Institute of Food Science & Technology is pleased to announce an International Workshop on “Research Methods in Nutrition” with the collaboration of University of Chester and University of Reading, UK on December 13-14, 2016 at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF). The main objective of this activity is to develop skills among MSc and PhD students with a focus on nutrition especially critical appraisal of literature, script proposals, designing research studies, writing scientific papers for publication and effective networking. Furthermore, Guest Speakers will deliver special lectures on various emerging issues and informs in the domain of nutrition research. This workshop will be attended by the food and nutrition students and professionals across the country. Additionally, we are expecting that representatives of nutrition partners in Pakistan like LANSA, GAIN, MI, UNICEF, UNIDO, USAID, FAO, WFP and Planning Commission (Nutrition Section) will also share their roles and activities to alleviate malnutrition in the country.

It is the matter of concern that about 800 million undernourished people out of 842 million underfed worldwide are living in developing countries.
It was echoed at the international seminar on Public Heath Nutrition arranged by National Institute of Food Sciences and Technology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad.
Addressing on the occasion as the chief guest, University of Chester UK Professor Dr Basma Elahi said that effective measures are needed to educate the people about the healthy way of life and to alleviate the poverty from the world. She said that the two billion people are deficient in essential vitamins and minerals. She said that the health is the social challenge not a medical problem. She said that the people are unaware with the usage of balanced diet and lifestyle. She said that in UK, one out of three third of the children are overweight. The people were reluctant to adopt healthy activities like workout and others. She said that worldwide, 1.4 billion people in the world are at the risk of their lives loss due to obesity.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the country is facing a crisis of malnutrition that was among the worst in the world. He said 80 million people in the country were the nutrient deficient. He stressed upon the need to food fortification to address the issue of food security. He said that changes in the lifestyle were aggravating the issue. Such as Lassi is the food source of protein but it is being replaced with soda. He said that the flour of wheat mixed with maize may be promoted to address the issue. He stressed the need to exercise and walk in the routine that will help lead to the healthy life. He said that the UAF has launched the BS programme in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in order to prepare the trained man force.
Dean Faculty of Food Nutrition and Home Sciences Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said over 70 per cent of worlds food-insecure population lives in rural areas in developing countries. He said that 60 percent of women are deficient of the vitamin D. He also showed his concern that the 58 percent of the country was insecure. He said that iron deficiency (anaemia) and vitamin A deficiency remains widespread in the country. Whereas, the maternal anaemia stands at 49% and night blindness at 16 percent. He added an estimated 35 per cent of child deaths under age 5 in the country are linked to malnutrition,
